Sheryl Lee Ralph would be excellent casting! I'm so excited for this season.
In London this weekend is West End Fest!, and apparently someone will be performing 'Let Me Be Your Star'. I wonder how that happened!

May I petition that we rename this thread SMASH DISCUSSION THREAD: SEASON ONE, and start a new and less monolithic thread for Season 2?

"Shows to me the new show runner has a good plan and is executing it well with lining up these new characters. "

I'm still waiting to see--most of these roles, while interestingly cast, strike me more as the producers trying to get more people in the cast and writing roles to them. Of course Ralph as Hudson's mom could just be a brief 2 episode cameo like Bernadette's was.

I'm fine with a Smash -- Season 2 thread replacing this... But why not closer to its Feb premier? Otherwise there'll just be more complaining due to the thread being so long from pree leaks and speculation before then...

Smash -- Series Discussion

"Marilyn Monroe is watching instead of being watched these days. The attraction is Marlon Brando on the "Desiree" set. She's itching to make a picture with him, and they'll be great together. Marilyn's coach--and I don't know why she needs one--is Natasha Lytess, and she tells her pupil she must play Sarah Bernhardt; that she was born for the role." - Hedda Hopper, 1954

Ella Fitzgerald said "I owe Marilyn Monroe a real debt. Its because of her that i played Mocambo. She personally called the owner of the Mocambo, and told him she wanted me booked immediately, and if he would do it, she would take a front table every night. And Marilyn was there, front table, every night" MS magazine. August 1972

I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

Sometimes I feel like not only did Marilyn invent Madonna, but she was the original Gaga as well. (Well, maybe Marilyn combined with Andy Warhol makes up one Gaga, at least.)

"While I paid the check, she left for the powder room, and I wished I had a book to read: her visits to powder rooms sometimes lasted as long as an elephant's pregnancy. Idly, as time ticked by, I wondered if she was popping uppers or downers. Downers, no doubt. There was a newspaper on the bar, and I picked it up; it was written in Chinese. After 20 minutes had passed, I decided to investigate. Maybe she'd popped a lethal dose, or even cut her wrists. I found the ladies' room, and knocked on the door. She said: "Come in." Inside, she was confronting a dimly lit mirror. I said: "What are you doing?" She said: "Looking at Her." In fact, she was coloring her lips with ruby lipstick. Also, she had removed the somber head scarf and combed out her glossy, fine-as-cotton-candy hair.)" - Truman Capote

When I saw that tickets for ROGERS & HAMMERSTEIN's CINDERELLA go on sale today I remembered how Laura Osnes was up for the role of Karen on the series. I think Laura has one of the most beautiful voices on Broadway right now. I think maybe it was better that McPhee got the role because I don't think Karen was suppose to have a classical Broadway voice. I know Laura that is capable of singing other genres of music, but I think McPhee's voice was better for a character with a Pop voice who is just starting to embrace musical theatre. Hilty's character is the one who is suppose to have the more experienced musical theatre background.

Anyway, I'm so excited that Laura will become the first woman to play the lead character in a musical that has never played on a Broadway stage, but it is a musical that has also stood the test of time.

What is this new costume designer on? I can't believe how poorly she's managed to make Debra Messing look. Where did her legs go?!

Um... what?

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

CINDERELLA has never played Broadway before. Therefore, Laura Osnes will be "originating" the role for Broadway. I believe that is what beautywickedlover meant.

@Taryn---That was my first reaction too when I saw that horrid dress Debra is wearing in those BTS photos. Here's to hoping there are no wide-angle shots in that scene.

I hope she doesn't ruin Season 2 for me. Not her biggest fan and with all the other top-notch casting for the second season, this was a bit of a disappointment.

It is kinda hard to see the other woman, Megan kinda steals the spotlight. She looks stunning in the period garb.
