Yeah, I'm wondering that too. I'd be really sad to see him miss it, having seen him in multiple readings for it. He's really remarkable in the role.

Maybe he's decided to jump the sinking ship that is BARE. From what I'm hearing, they've really ruined the show.

However, I'm not too excited about SMASH Season 2. Cutting characters that I'm interested in having be further developed and adding J. Hud to the show... It sounds like they're desperate to sell the show to lowest common denominator and get rid of everything that made SMASH stellar in the first place.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

"Just what this show needs is another former "American Idol" contestant. Look who's joining the cast."

And I bet you just LOVE Laura Osnes who only made it to Broadway winning a TV reality show.

Okay, this is "friend of a friend of a friend who knows someone who knows someone who works on Smash" gossip (not that six degrees, but close) so take this with a grain of salt. But said person relates when the show comes back, "Bombshell" has been up and running for six months, Karen is a new star and the team is reassembling to create a new musical (no indication if it too is based on some one or something in pop culture).

Of course I haven't gone back and read the past pages posted since the finale so this might be old news.

This makes sense in relations to the types of talent they are hiring for the second season.

Owen22, your posting sounds in line with Speilberg's initial idea for the show.

He had once said that each new season would be about the creation of a new show. If this is indeed true, then some of the cut characters would make more sense, and I won't be as upset about who we lost along the way.

However, J. Hud!?!?!?! Really?

The latest "announcement" is what I was told. Not sure how it'll work without being an overkill but I like it.

My connection to the show told me that, and that's why Jennifer is being brought in. From my understanding she'll be in that show.

I can't wait. If this means double the original music on the show then I am absolutely for it!

It sounds like they have taken a good hard look at what worked and what didn't last season and taken steps to improve that. I'm all for more original music, it was always my favourite part. It does seem that they've worked out who their audience is and thrown a few good looking young guys into the mix just keep people happy.

Per IBDB, the longest running show with the letters "bomb" in the title was BOMBAY DREAMS at 8 months. So Karen should be free for November sweeps!

I have no idea why Mr. Clarke thinks Miss Hudson is such a low-rent choice. How many TV shows have an Oscar/Grammy winner in their casts?

I'm interested to see the show Jennifer will be in. Will it be another bio show? Etta James?

^^^^, Please, God, no! I can't take another season of "Etta knew what love is" and "Etta knew what heartbreak is", etc.

Whatever the new show-within-the-show is, please let the show runner realize he has to decide on the actual content and action of the imaginary show if the songwriters are to have anything decent to write. (Yes, I know Shaiman and Wittman found a couple of decent musical moments despite the odds. But a lot of the "new music" was pretty generic and even repetitive. Not the songwriters' fault, IMO.)

Gaveston, I don't like her. I know she'll bring in a larger audience and further boost the show finically. However, I can't sand her singing voice and find it completely unenjoyable. I'm personally not looking forward to her being on the show for that reason. I find her to have large potential for talent (i.e. Dreamgirls), but I feel in her pop music CDs she just screeches her way through music written for her.

But the season-two plotline will also involve the emergence of a hot new musical that gives "Bombshell" a run for its money in terms of buzz and Tonys attention.

You mean there's gonna be a Vocal Adrenaline musical to try to beat Bombshell's New Directions?

Oh wait, I forgot. This show is nothing like Glee. Perish the thought.

DEClarke, I haven't heard any of Hudson's pop albums. I'm not a big R&B fan.

But she has shown she can sing and act show music in DREAMGIRLS (as you allow) and I didn't think she was half-bad as an actress in SEX AND THE CITY.

We'll see. But I fear you are right: she was probably hired to add the "wail factor" so often emphasized on GLEE. I may very well end up agreeing with you.

As I mentioned earlier I am very much looking forward to Jennifer appearing on the show. She was my favorite contestant from season three of that reality competition, which is now only for teeny bopper girls who like good looking boys, and her performance in 'Dreamgirls' blew me away. I have also seen her live twice and she is vocally amazing. And earlier this year I briefly met her at a book signing and she seemed very sweet.

I'm sure the answer to this question is somewhere in these 90 pages but I gave up after 43. Please forgive.

What is the passage of time between the pilot when El-ass suggests Marilyn as a musical to the season finale/preview with McPhee in the lead?

Kerrigan and Lowdermilk come to mind. Just sayin'.

Can't wait for this upcoming season, I think the addition of Jennifer Hudson is fantastic. As others said earlier in the thread, Uma Thurman injected the show with star power that was really needed; clearly the show runners realized this and seem to be addressing that. Maybe naively, I have hope that the show can actually be good, more than a guilty pleasure, this coming season.

The new show runner (I forget his name) basically said they knew some story/character arcs didn't work, and weren't followed through and that needs to be fixed.
