I agree, husk. She is just the sweetest woman EVER and an entertainer in every sense of the word. I can't wait to see this documentary, but where is the trailer?
I saw Miss Channing in a benefit performance on Wednesday night here in Palm Springs (Palm Desert, actually, for those who know the difference). She sang "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend", "St. James Infirmary", "Before the Parade Passes By", an original song written for her charity, and "Hello, Dolly" (with the audience taking the roles of the waiters).
Among her guests were her friends, Rich Little and Bruce Vilanche.
She did indeed have memory problems and relied on her husband for assistance. He said she had been in the hospital until shortly before show time and was returning to the hospital as soon as the curtain came down.
Didn't really matter. Channing is still charming and often very funny. The outpouring of affection from the audience was overwhelming. My friends and I felt like we were probably witnessing what may turn out to be an historic occasion. (I don't say this to start a rumor that she's at death's door. I just mean she's 91. How many more opportunities will we get to see her?)
I worked with Channing briefly decades ago, but I didn't really know either of them. But watching them on stage, they did seem like the type of old couple that basically "goes together".
Surely everyone wishes Miss Channing nothing but the best, whatever the future holds for her.
