Hey, so I was wondering - since I'm in a shadow cast of Rocky this weekend, I naturally researched Rocky a little bit and discovered the screenplay for another full-length sequel 'O Brien wrote himself, "Revenge Of The Old Queen".

I know there's one demo that's leaked onto the internets, but I was wondering if there were other recordings that were available to listen to as well.

Several of the songs were used in "Shock Treatment," I believe.

ETA - Scratch that. I'm thinking of something else.

A friend of mine *made* other demos, working with O'Brien off and on over the years. I don't know that she has copies or that they are available anywhere. I'll ask.

LOL Jordan.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Bump. Seriously, no one besides Gaveston knows about this?

Just so I'm perfectly clear, we are speaking of a musicalization of Rocky Balboa... Right?

Sean, my memory was faulty. My friend (singer/actress Michelle Holmes) played Janet in a series of live, backer's audition-type performances for the sequel in the 1990s. (That's interesting because she sounds nothing like Susan Sarandon. Michelle is the lead singer of the band, Crazy Aunt Mary, and, while she sings many styles, she is a fabulous belter. Not that Sarandon would have necessarily done the sequel anyway, but I find it interesting they were using such a different type of voice for the auditions.)

I asked and Michelle said she made no recordings and doesn't know what, if any, demos were recorded.

Again, I apologize if I got anyone's hopes up. Updated On: 10/31/11 at 06:28 PM
