PETER AND THE STARCATCHER to Open on Broadway This Spring |
Fantastic! Loved this play. Curious who they'll cast as Stache and Peter since the originals are otherwise occupied. Hopefully CKB will come back in her part- she was absolutely charming.

Stache is the only role they'll have to re-cast. Christian Borle is unavailable due to his shooting schedule for SMASH.
Adam Chanler-Berat is going to leave RENT at the beginning of the year in order to move forward with PETER AND THE STARCATCHER.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

^That would be quite a season for the Booth!

I am curious to see how will take over Christian Borle's role now that he's doing "Smash."

Triple post, my computer didn't work.
Updated On: 10/19/11 at 02:39 PMYea, Adam will probably leave Rent. I wonder who will replace him.
Hopefully Christian Borle is sticking with the production. He's great.

I feel like this news has gotten very repetitive over the months. Amazing how no matter how many times you hear it, the excitement doesn't go away. I loved the show the few times I saw it downtown, watching it grow, change, and please audience after audience was an awesome experience. I don't see many shows that would really be defined as shows for kids, and even of the ones I have, I've never seen one that is nearly as enjoyable for both them and adults. Such an incredibly well written, and well produced show. I'm confident that it will be fine in the Booth, while I think it is a show that calls for a sense of intimacy that might be a bit lost even in the Booth, I also think it is a show that can certainly survive some adaption, while retaining the beautiful simplicity that made me (and many others) fall in love with. Congrats to all involved!
Yay!!! I was disappointed when I missed at NYTW, so glad it's transferring!
What a colossal piece of crap! It'll probably run for years.
The Booth is the perfect theatre for this show.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I don't think he will. It would be very difficult to do both this and "Smash," which has a lot of pontential.

Smash is a midseason show, so it will likely have a shorter-than-usual season. They've been filming since August and will likely be wrapped for the season by February. I wouldn't be surprised if he opens the show.
Borle is not opening the show. SMASH doesn't wrap until April.

The article refers to this as a "play," but I've heard people talk about the music from the show. How much like a musical is this?
On a happier note, I definitely will be seeing it no matter what- I love Adam and fantasy, so I would never be able to resist. Bummed that Christian Borle won't be there, too, though.

It's a play with a couple select, albeit brief, songs the cast sing. The real 'sell' on this show -- cast aside -- is its storytelling.

Doing it without Borle is a crime.
SMASH shoots in NYC right?

I'm so happy about this.
If it's not going to be Borle as Stache then I feel bad for the person playing Stache. . . He has some big shoes to fill.
Christian would have won the Tony. I mean, he was that good.

CurtainPullDowner, while SMASH shoots in New York, the schedule is so varied and complex with the various musical numbers involved that it's impossible to work around it in order to do theater. Generally, single camera hour long shows are impossible to accommodate doing theater anyway, but something as unorthodox as SMASH is even more complicated.
Everyone involved tried to figure out if it was do-able, but ultimately they realized they had to move forward and re-cast without Borle.

BEST NEWS ALL YEAR! If Christian Borle can't be in the Broadway production, I hope they are smart enough to offer the role of Black Stache to Carson Elrod.

"they had to move forward and re-cast without Borle"
Then they are idiots, it's a great piece, well written, designed and directed but Borle was the spark that made it really special.
I quess they could cast a good TV actor like Hyde Pierce but anyone is gonna be compared (I fear, unfavorably) to Borle.
