Interesting choice. I hope we don't have to wait much longer to fing out the rest of the cast. There's at least one female name bouncing around, and she'd be awesome, but it might be simple wishful thinking.
Great...first Lauren Ambrose, now this. Another gentile steals a Jewish role.

What happened to Gavs?
Creel was attached to the 2008 revival that never happened.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
I couldn't be happier with this announcement. The thought actually never crossed my mind- I guess I assumed he was busy with Weeds for a while. I saw Hunter as Melchior twice, and he is wonderful on stage. An incredibly unique and beautiful voice, and a real presence. I can't wait to see what he brings to this production! He'll also get them a lot of press, which never hurts. Anxiously awaiting the rest of the cast announcement.
I'm psyched too. I just went from having no desire to see this at all to having a mild* sense of excitement.
*VERY mild.

....but the world goes 'round
I'm hoping they cast (again) Josh Henry as Judas. He was wonderful out at Paper Mill and was slated again to play Judas in 2008. Now that he's had a lead role on Broadway, I hope his name is still in the pipeline.

This musical has made the list of my must see's :)
I'm hoping they cast (again) Josh Henry as Judas.
He's in Porgy and Bess?

There's one that I'm waiting to see announced too (I wonder if it's the same one?); hopefully the rest of the cast is announced soon.

Duh! Sorry--didn't get much sleep last night and the coffee hasn't kicked in yet!

I'm not concerned. Let's face facts: this role isn't that hard to play. Plus I really enjoy him as an actor. Though I loathe this show.
I know for a fact the ensemble is cast, so I'm sure we'll hear about that soon.
A nice surprise. I now have some desire to see this. Pity Gavin Creel isn't doing, but I suppose they wanted someone younger.

"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
^Yes, the word is that the cast is skewing younger. I guess that will help niche them now that they will apparently be up against JCS with a comparatively "older" cast (assuming most transfer).

So we might have battling hot jesuses (jesii?) this year on Broadway?
The season is looking up already.

I would just like to say that THIS crucifixion scene should be brought to us courtesy of 2(x)ist and their Resort line's sport brief.
I kind of want to see this now. Godspell was my first musical and I was more than obsessed with it when I was a teen. Adding Hunter Parrish to the mix is like the cherry on top of a sundae.
@broadwayguy2 Yes. Definitely.

I'm still not sure about this. I don't HATE it, but I'm not jumping up and down about it. (He's a cutie, though.)
I thought he was "ok" in SA.
I just cant believe they released ONE name. Does that mean they'll be another name as Judas? Hmmmm........

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

It would have been amazing with Gavin Creel, but I'm actually even more excited after the Hunter announcement- I think it'll take it in a different direction.
Forgive me if this is common knowledge, but why was the 2008 revival cancelled?

They couldn't raise the $$$. They fell short of their 4.5 needed for capitolization. (or whatever it's called.)

I think the fact that this production is in a smaller theater helped a lot. I think the revival that was supposed to occur was at the Barrymore correct me if i'm wrong?
I'm VERY excited about this news. I've been a fan of Hunter Parrish since the start of "Weeds" and absolutely loved him in SPRING AWAKENING (he was, far and away, my favorite Melchior). However, I hope he has done some serious voice training since that run considering how hoarse his voice became by the end.

[/quote] That makes 3 of us because I'm also anxious to see whether a certain female actress is joining the cast. Given her previous work it would be a really good fit, and vocally she'll kick ass.
