Posted: 6/3/11 at 12:10amForgive me but, I'm tired of hearing how it's time for a revival of "...". Let's try not to live in the past. New shows equal new audience members right? New creativity equals new opportunity and opinions. SO what subjects, persons, characters, historical times, themes would be best for NEW concepts as a show?

seriously though, Cirque Du Soleil can buy Radio City and put up a show that will ultimately have NO story and look like almost every other show of theirs. How creative is that? It is just a formula that works for them. With all of the creative types on this website I'm sure there is a stronger and more legitimate show that has a true story to tell.

I would love to see Tuck Everlasting go to Broadway in some way. I know there are a few versions floating around on YouTube. I love the story.
I think Frank Sinatra needs some sort of musical about his life or something about the Rat Pack.
I would love to see musical versions of a few Shakespeare pieces: King Lear, the Scottish Play and Othello, namely.
Miss Congeniality is another movie I'd like to see on Broadway at some point.
I'd love to see a musical on Abe Lincoln's life.
These are just a few ideas. I know they are not all subjects or characters, but just wishful thinking!

New doesn't equal better, good, new audiences or any of the things you suggest -- as a given. Sometimes it can happen. Book of Mormon and Spiderman are doing that, but Scottsboro Boys and Bloody Blookdy could not.
Just because something is a revival does not preclude those things from happening either: South Pacific, and Hair spring to mind as doing many of those things.
Lastly, those folks that truly have fabulous ideas might thing twice about throwing them on a publlic forum where someone else might take the idea and run with it.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Tammy Faye Bakker (Chenoweth says she's tied to a project on her). but, like a good bio-musical, much would have to be fictionalized. Nothing more boring than a bio-musical that tries to stick to the truth.
I think a musical with an underlying theme about America's developing imperialism could be fun; but the theme would have to be underlying, of course. Something like Assassins.

Posted: 6/3/11 at 6:23pmbwayphreak, No doubt you're too young to remember the musical REX from the mid-70's. Not the Boleyn sisters, but Henry, daughter Elizabeth and a couple of wives. One of Richard Rogers' last scores with lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. Should a' been a winner but sadly the great pedigree didn't guarantee a fun night in the theater-- long and dull with a few stand out tunes.

Harriet Tubman
A Prayer for Owen Meany
Sense and Sensibility
And I would love to see someone successfully musicalize a Daniel Pinkwater book like Alan Mendelson, the Boy From Mars or The Snarkout Boys and the Avocado of Death. I think the man is a creative genius and I loved his books when I was a kid. I'm frankly surprised he never reached the ranks of Dahl, Baum or Seuss. Could be a good project for William Finn.

I would love to see an autobiographical Sondheim musical -- telling his story (life or professional), with a brand new score penned by the master.
And a Theodore Roosevelt musical would be great fun too. The man was rather eccentric, very loud, brash, and larger-than-life -- not to mention a flair for dramatics.

LOL. I'd argue for "Don't Cry for Me, Wasilla." And "Rainbow High" came to my mind with her wardrobe scandal.
And since I'm already thinking political, Bill and Hilary the Musical. That would be juicy.
