How often to amateur productions include "Tick Tock" and (replicate?) the original choreography?

I saw an amateur production of COMPANY the other day and was almost shocked to see them start performing TICK TOCK because it's almost unheard of, right?

I am not too familiar with the dance itself but from what I could see looked similar to the way Donna danced it in the 1993 reunion concert (But really not that thrilling).

Is this frowned upon?

When we did Company a few years ago at my college we did Tick-Tock.

as long as the concept of the dance is understood, and the choreography reflects that, fine. Otherwise you wind up having a girl flailing about in bra and panties for no reason.

There was a community theater production in NJ two years ago that included "Tick-Tock" and did it with the original choreography. Unfortunately that was one of only a few bright spots with their production of "Company".

It apparently isn't in the licensed materials and is only available when a
Group 'asks' for it-- but I think you'll see more groups start using it again -- all these shows eventually come full circle with enough time, and people eventually become most interested in the original version of shows, as opposed to the rewrites implemented for revivals twenty years ago.

That choreography of McKechnie on youtube for the reunion btw is somewhat modified from what she did originally-- adjusted for her age and rhe small stage of the concert presentation.

I saw it used in a NJ community production in 2007. It was an absolutely dreadful production. They tried emulating the Doyle revival.

This production borrowed elements (assuming it was original to the Doyle production), like blowing out a spotlight on the stage for a birthday cake that flickers etc.....

Also, is there an unwritten rule that Bobby has to be at least semi good looking? This guy was overweight and balding.

I can't tell if she's trying to say something with the dance, or if she's just dusting off her preteen ballet class moves.

I know "Tick Tock" has been pretty much declared unnecessary, but I love the music, April and Bobby have some amusing lines, and the "I love yous" reinforce the show's theme. And did I mention I love the music?

I realize that the number was designed to give Kathy her "moment" in the show, but if there isn't a suitable dancer or choreography, couldn't the number be performed without dancing? (I'm thinking dark stage, or as a score to a sex scene.)

I saw a "tick tock" performed by the whole cast as sort of a "dream sequence" in which Bobby danced first with April, a really steamy pas de deux type thing, then with woman after woman, until everyone paired off to dance but him. It was sort of like a variation on the "everyone dances but Bobby" staging in the original "Side By Side" choreography.
