Lincoln Center Theater has eliminated their student membership program and started LincTix for anyone ages 21 to 35. After you sign up, tickets for all their shows are $30 (including War Horse!).

Just joined! This is wonderful.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I can understand a group wanting to help out students; I do not understand a blatantly ageist program that penalizes those not in a target age group.

Many of the non-profits in the city include something about bringing a young audience into the theatre as part of their mission statement. Programs like this help fulfill their mission.

It's about time. I guess Lincoln Center finally figured out that the median age of their subscribers is 80.

Plus this will encourage younger audiences to start coming to the Lincoln Center space, paving the way for the eventual LCT3 move there.

Joe- I know this is ruining the snarky attitude you're going for, but 35 is very young compared to the average theatre audience member, especially for a non-profit house where the average age is a few decades higher.

We always cry that theatre is dying, and it isn't, at least the flashy commercial stuff, but the non-profit world has to find a way to get the younger audience in and as Roundabout and MTC have proven the discount group works.

So good. Thanks for this!

I was a bit worried because I am only 20, but it appears to accept any birthdate from 1990, even if you're not technically 21.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Seriously? Someone is bashing a theater for taking initiative to LOWER ticket prices?

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

THANK YOU for this post! Just got my tix for my trip to NYC in July. I really wanted to see the show and this probably saved me nearly $100. WOW! Love this board.

Has anyone tried this? How strict are they about IDs?

I think it's great that they are trying to appeal to a younger audience but there are a large amount of students with no money under the age of 21...

Only one ticket per person, but you can buy two tickets if your friend is also 21-35 and has signed up for LincTix. You have the option of inputting other users' ID numbers when ordering tickets.
