*squeal* !!! i am so excited and I will be there a few times no doubt.

Also - I am happy to know I can now skip the Hartford CT show coming up. The Hartford crowds are not my fav. but I am sure the hippie love will spin them on their heads. And they *need* it :)))

I saw the New Haven CT shows and I love the Shubert theater. SOOO HAPPY and gratful to be able to see HAIR back in NYC !!! YIP YIP YIPPIE !!!!!!!!!

I'm scratching my head at this decision. I understand the need to fill a dark house, and glad it keeps hardworking theatrical professionals employed over the summer. I'm just curious how this will sell.

When Hair closed summer 2010, it was only filling an 11,000 seat house to the tune of 70%, pulling in an average ticket price of just over $60. Now, they're moving into a 13,000 seat house with almost no momentum. One can argue that winter/spring 2010 was a result of the momentum push from the 2009 Tony Awards. Hair is going to need to scratch and claw their way through new show publicity to build up something to fill the St. James at the same capacity. 2010 certainly wasn't the Summer of Love for them, I'm curious how 2011 will fare.

Granted there will be little to no capitalization needed since it's a simple tour-like load-in so the show increases it's chances to land in the black here. I'm just curious where/how they expect to generate more than 70% in the cavernous St. James.

This seems...odd. No other way to say it.

I understand that it was once common practice for tours (especially tours of revivals) to end their runs on Broadway, but was anyone really clamoring for the return of this production?

Plus the St. James is much larger and with a separate mezzanine and balcony will make the interactive elements much more difficult.

Still, it's great to see a bunch of people working during a traditionally slow theatre time (at least in New York).

Actually, the Hirschfeld has around 1,200 seats, not 11,000, and the St. James has around 2,600, not 13,000.

Still a big theater to fill, but as you said, it's a simple load in and go. Almost all profit. From what I've heard, people are really excited about this.

I think what GhostLite meant was approximately total seats per week.

My friend, Nkrumah, is making his Broadway debut with this! So thrilled for him. He's in my video, "Vampire Drag Queen". :)

Correct, DottieD'Luscia. I'm referring to total seats per week (8 shows)

It's good to know people are "excited" for this show to return, but will that yield ticket sales. And there's no guarantee this show becomes all profit, because regardless of whatever personnel deals are made on this show, the nut should remain similar the Hirschfeld version unless there is a great concession happening that the public is not privy too. By estimates, this show will still need to gross $600-$600K to meet it's weekly operating expenses, so will they garner enough sales at the get-go to get that figure. When it closed in June 2010, it wasn't breaking $500K. Hopefully the year off brings back a little more interest.

To clarify, the Hirschfeld has 1437 seats (11,392 weekly) and the St. James has 1709 seats (13,672 weekly).

I actually didn't even realize what a change in venue will do to the audience interaction at this show. The balcony at the St. James might as well be in another zipcode, there's no way in hell they're gonna make them run all the way up there. The show itself is very intimate and will be lost to those sitting way up in the balcony. Does anyone think that they may block off balcony tickets and just sell orchestra and mezz only?
