Thankfully the show seemed pretty sold. At the end, roses were thrown from a box, people were standing at the back for the show too. At curtain call the conductor was crying, a lot of the audience was crying, the cast were crying. The response throughout the was the *wildly* enthusiastic, the obligatory ovation felt actually genuine and lasted for a long time.

I can't imagine what the final performance is going to be like. A (person on the show's team?) was recording some responses for YouTube/facebook and saying she wants the show to keep going or something..so maybe they haven't given up yet.

The show is chilling and hilarious and moving. No one is their right mind would miss it.

Do you guys think it could/would extend thru the holidays if they keep getting these type of houses throughout the week

Protestors were gone tonight. I hope it extends, but I'm not sure. I am afraid that the packed houses are due to the fact that people think they have to see it before it closes. If they open the run back up a bit, they might not get the same urgent response. That said, I support it extending as long as it can.

I was there tonight, too, qolinbau. If I can love a show from the last row of the balcony, I know I love it. It was my third time at the show and it just keeps getting better. Every time I see it I think even more that it might be the best conceived (written and directed in tandem, if that makes sense) show I've ever seen. The audience response tonight was like nothing I've ever seen at a Broadway show and it really added to the experience.

I was there too, right behind the conductor who was visibly moved by all the love from the audience. Got me chocked up too. What a fantastic night at the theatre and what a shame that this show is closing so soon. Fingers crossed for an extended run.

I just have to say BRAVO to the cast and the creative team for the Scottsboro Boys. I have never had such a good experience at a Broadway show.

Never thought that much could be done on stage with just talent alone.

I can honestly say this show, for me was, perfection! I am surprised it is closing so soon and I am hoping it will extend and finds an audience. The audience it so readily deserves! Also Playbill article has to get rid of the spoiler!
Part of the magic of the show for me was the revelation who the on looker was!

I was there as well. Dan Lauria, Judith Light, and Halle Berry were in the Orchestra. I don't think I've ever seen a non-closing, non-opening night curtain call last that long. The fact that this is closing just shows that Broadway has gone up **** creek.

Also, 90 percent sure the guy throwing roses was John Kander.

America Ferrera was there as well, along with the guy who plays her dad in Ugly Betty and some other people. I saw Michael Feinstein too standing outside the theater before the show.

It is hard, though not impossible, to announce an extension after a two week closing notice. By this point they have now been cramming all interested audiences into these final performances, and I would assume most ticket holders for any of the post-closing dates have already exchanged their tickets or received a refund. This would mean that if they announce an extension now they are essentially selling all of those performances from zero again. It's a very daunting task from the producing side. You have to throw a lot of money back into publicity to run a new ad campaign and of course run the risk of still not being able to sell those performances.

Whoever it was had the same 'look' as John Kander (older white male), but I realise that is a large demographic so...I think he was also the one shouting "bravo" and things after every song.

It's interesting how many BWWorld members were there :P; glad others got to experience the awesome show tonight too!!

It's threads like these that make me glad this board exists. I saw the show last weekend and enjoyed it, but the crowd (while extremely receptive) was small and you just knew a closing notice was imminent.

Now those who unfortunately won't get a chance to experience it will hear first hand from those who did, and that's a key component of keeping commercially risky art like THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS alive.

I'm sure it was I(or will be filmed) for the LC archives....but I guarantee it won't be for any sort of public release.


I can't imagine that they can extend again at this point...with only a week to get tix sold again? I know that Ragtime extended a few weeks after they initially announced....but they had more lead time in which to do so.

If they are going to extend, it would be right into the busy holiday season. Perhaps they will be able to build some buzz such as they are with the closing, and extend a bit. A little wishful thinking never hurt, I guess...

Sadly, I feel that if their original close date was Jan 2, they'd still be experiencing some great houses. I could not undertstand them NOT holding out through the holidays. Surely, the Lyceum didn't need the house cleared that quickly.

It really seemed like a desperate move because they REALLY weren't selling well. But now if they are selling so well, why shouldn't they at least be able to hold out a bit longer?

Wish it would extend til Jan 9 when I get to town. Just received the cast recording and it was amazing. It was the top of my list followed by Andrew Jackson [another victim]. I guess there's always the Spiderman spectacle to witness.

I was at the show tonight. The standing O was the most heartfelt applause I have ever seen/been a part of. If it wasn't for the need to do the BC/EFA speech, it would have kept going. It was my first time seeing it and I wish I could see it again.

This show is smart and gut wrenching and superbly performed. josh Henry made a really good career move by leaving AI to do this show where he gets to act and not just strip. I loved it so so much. I can't believe that it posted. I'm really shocked.
