When I was last in NYC, I saw American Idiot but I promptly lost my Playbill (I was exhausted and frazzled and wasn't all that upset because the show was kind of a disappointment). Anyway, I would like a Playbill because I collect them from the shows I've seen. Can I just stop by the box office and ask for one?

why not walk by the theatre after the show and pick up one of the hundreds that careless people drop on the ground?

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

Good idea! Get my Playbill and get rid of litter at the same time!

That's always worked for me, in case you don't find one on the ground.

I have 31 AMERICAN IDIOT Playbills from when I saw it last night. (My parents and I each agreed to grab "a few". However, "a few" from everyone really adds up). I'd be happy to do trade or we could work something out.

And yes, picking up Playbills on the street is awesome. Last night I got Phantom, Memphis, BBAJ, and A LIFE IN THE THEATRE (signed by T.R Knight that someone had dropped)

quizking- Why did you take 31 Playbills? That is totally obnoxious. No one needs to have 31 Playbills from the same performance.

I know. Like I said, its an obscene amount and I got a few, but also my Mom and Dad got a few...it added up.

Now I REALLY need to get rid of them...It's a collector's nightmare since I have no space for them.

10 Playbills each is not 'a few'.

I must be saying the wrong thing, because every time I've asked at the box office for a Playbill, they've turned me down. What do you guys say?

quizking, your story reminds me of someone I know at work who, at the end of a catered lunch buffet, took about 25 sandwich rolls -- basically all the leftover bread. Then she said later, "What am I going to do with all these rolls? I don't even like them!"

"What was the name of that cheese that I like?" "you can't run away forever...but there's nothing wrong with getting a good head start" "well I hope and I pray, that maybe someday, you'll walk in the room with my heart"

More than Playbills I look for ticket stubs that people have dropped on the ground. Those working in the performing arts can deduct a certain amount of tickets to shows and movies as part of "career research and training." Since ticket stubs have the price printed on them they are acceptable as receipts for IRS purposes. A full price ticket left lying on the ground is a write-off goldmine.

with 31 extra playbills, why not just give brightasyellow ONE rather than look to "trade" or "work something out"?

I mean, really now.

He's probably just a kid and doesn't know any better. (I won't say anything bad about his parents)

From an environmental standpoint, taking that many Playbills may increase the theater's demand for more Playbills (you're not the only one who takes large quantities of Playbills, but you're a big contributor), therefore wasting more paper and creating more waste. So that's a big no no. Just don't do it next time. and learn to share. Listen to your elders.
