Bernadette Peters is performing in concert with our symphony. For those who have seen her perform in a concert setting, does she perform songs from her broadway shows? Or does she tend to do more pop standards? Tickets go on sale next week. I will see her regardless, but based on her setlist, will determine my ticket price. Thanks.
This was the setlist from her June 26th concert (according to a review I saw):
Let Me Entertain You No One is Alone There is Nothing Like a Dame Fever Mr. Snow Some Enchanted Evening Shenandoah Not a Day Goes By When You Wish Upon a Star My Romance The Way You Look Tonight In Buddy's Eyes You Could Drive a Person Crazy With So Little To Be Sure Of Children Will Listen Being Alive Encore: Stella's Song
I saw her in 2008 in Denver. She did some of what Q listed. She did the song from the CD that came with her book and sang it to a little girl in the front row. (Is that Stella's song Q?) It was a bit of a mix but mostly showtunes. it was a very good show. Children Will Listen brought me to tears.
Unc - I just took that list from a recent review. I also saw her in '08 when she started this tour.
I'm mostly curious about the size of the orchestra. When we saw her, it was with a 29-piece group. This concert on June 26th apparently only had 9. I'm curious if this is completely dependent on the availability of the facility, or if it's only with 9 now, no matter what. Updated On: 8/28/10 at 10:23 AM
She had the full Colorado Symphony Orchestra plus a few more musicians backing her when I saw her. The symphony did 3 pieces in the 1st half of the show and she did the second half.
I think Stella's Song is one of the 4 songs on the CD that comes with the book. Just looked and it is listed under "Blue Apple Books".

Q...when she performs in Jacksonville it will be with our entire symphony. Similiar to what Idina Menzel did earlier this summer. I hope she keeps in the songs from Into The Woods. When I saw it, she had already left the show. Her replacement was Phillicia (sp) Rasshad. Who was also very good. I've only seen Bernadette in two shows...Song And Dance and Annie Get Your Gun. I'm hoping she adds Send In The Clowns to the setlist. Thanks for all the help.
Just a possible clarification. Unless Bernadette has added it VERY recently, she does Kramer's Song (from her book Broadway Barks) as her encore, not Stella's Song (from Stella is a Star). Kramer's Song is very much a lullaby and while I guess she could do Stella's Song, it doesn't really lend itself to a stand alone song like Kramer's.
ArtMan, I wouldn't hold your breath for Send in the Clowns since Bernadette very recently said she wouldn't do it in a concert setting because the scene in which is takes place is very integral to the song.
Agree with everyone about how wonderful she is in concert. I've seen her several times and she always puts on quite a show. Watching her create a mood and character for every song is thrilling. Just as interesting is watching her come out of character at the end of the song. When its a particularly emotional song, it always takes her an extra moment to "come back" and acknowledge the applause.
Uncageg, Idina was entertaining. She does songs from Wicked and Rent, as well as songs from the cd she put out earlier this year. Also show tunes. Her show in Jacksonville was the first show of her tour, so it may have changed some. She did alot of talking between songs. Many like that. It got on my nerves after a while. But it was an outside concert and the ticket was only $15, so I can't complain. I say if you are a fan go for it, especially if the ticket prices are not too steep.
When is the concert? She was to open the Cincy Pop's Season Sep. 24-26 this year, but canceled because of ALNM. Idina is the replacement. Now she is to open the 11-12 season, I hope so!
9/10 - Next To Normal, Ensemble Theatre 9/18 - Brian Stokes Mitchell, Cincy Pop's 9/28 - Death Of A Salesman, Wright State
moljul, that actually sounds familiar (The name of the song). It was almost 2 years ago so I forget.
ArtMan, If I go, I won't pay full price for Idina. I actually like tthe top "ring" of our concert hall. The acoustics are nice up there and the tickets are cheap.
