Well since it's summer stock, I actually think it's a great idea, I think she has an amazing set of pipes and from what I hear she gave a tour-de-force in the LA Reprise! production of FALSETTOS. So I guess why not? I imagine she'll inject the role with a lot more personality and comedic flair than age-appropriate Stephanie J. Bock could.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
A better late than never casting. A role Ms. Lewis was always perfect for, always wanted to play and somehow never has. That's okay, I'll forgive Sacramento this time for casting someone too old in the role - I bet she'll still be grand.
I just saw her onstage in HOW TO SUCCEED with Reprise and she's got one hell of a set of pipes!
But she looks her age.

Maybe they will change the framming device of the play, like they did when Debbie Reynolds in her 50s went out in MOLLY BROWN on the road. Its 1951 and Fanny is about to go to the Ziegfeld Theatre in the sky but on her death bed she takes on last look around...
I agree with Michael Bennett -- she's otherwise perfect for the role. Although it's a little funny to think that she was playing Mamma Rose two years ago. )
