I remember seeing Lynn in "Sweet Sue" on Broadway with Mary Tyler Moore in the mid-'80s.
The play was pretty rotten, but I will never forget the "star wattage" of seeing Lynn and Mary on stage together. They were both utterly captivating, and it showed me how and why those two ladies were stars.

She was such a special talent. I am very upset over the news. she will be missed dearly. Poor Vanessa. Losing Lynn, and Natasha within a shorter period of time.
I never knew who she was until I came across videos of her on youtube playing "Celebrity Jeopardy", and the woman was a hoot! Now I have seen much of her body of work, and I am deeply saddened.
Rest In Peace Lynn..

This is such sad sad news. Peace and prayers to her family
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."
Conan O'Brien
If anything, she was getting better with age. Her bit role at the end of KINSEY was one of the best things about that movie.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

I have my own Lynn Redgrave story. (Either bear with me and read it, or pass on to the next post. I get wordy sometimes.)
I had the great pleasure of meeting Lynn Redgrave when she was appearing off Broadway in "Talking Heads". It was August 30, 2003 and I had arrived WAY too early and was just standing outside the theatre when she approached from down the street. She nodded to me and said 'good evening - are you waiting for me?'. I told her that I was seeing the show for the 4th time (true) and how much I loved her character and performance in the play. She thanked me and asked me to stop by after the show and she'd sign my playbill for me. She had just finished chemotherapy treatments for her cancer and her hair was gone. She didn't have a drop of makeup on and all I could see was this incredibly beautiful face, without a blemish or a wrinkle on it. For all you could tell, she could have been 25.
After the show I waited outside for her to come out and give me that autograph. I waited and waited and no Lynn. Finally I went back into the theatre and there she was, with a few of the other cast members and the stage manager, having champagne at the lobby bar. She saw me and waived me in and put a glass of champagne in my hand, as she apologized for keeping me waiting!!!
Next day I was sitting in the cheap seats, all the way in the back, at the closing performance of "Long Day's Journey Into Night", starring sister Vanessa. Everybody around me (including me) was craning our necks to see all the celebrities going down that aisle. You can imagine how high my stock went when Lynn Redgrave and Natasha Richardson walked in, arm in arm, and Lynn looked to the left, saw me, and said "Mamie! Hello!".
And now - both gone. It's just too much.
