Did anyone else go? I was there with a few friends. It was an amazing time! The cast was amazing, the crowd was the best I've seen.

I loved all the things that went wrong / was different. Sutton's first burp in I Think I Got You Beat just wasn't there. It was the funniest thing! She opened her mouth to burp, nothing came out, she giggled then composed herself and took a deep breathe for her second burp. Priceless. And I loved Chris Siber's ad lib in Things are Looking Up in Duloc, instead of singing "we're growing, we're growing", he said "we're closing, we're closing" I think that threw off the cast, they sang a mixture of growing / closing. So funny.

I'm sure some other members from here was at the last show. I would love to hear what other people thought of it! So, please post a review. :)

Was there any speech or announcement after the show?

Sadly, no. We didn't even get a special playbill for closing. Shrek's Last Show on Jan. 3rd. I saw a lot of the creative team there too, but no speeches were made. Strange. Before the show, though we could hear the cast on stage, it sounded like they all had a moment together, then after they all cheered really loud, that got the audience going before the show even started.

There is seldom a "special" closing night. The rare exceptions would be for monumental closings like Rent. Then you are celebrating an amazing run. You don't usually commemmorate the closing of a flop.

Glad you had fun.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I won the lotto... PHENOMENAL night. So much energy from that cast. Just to look up at them crying was so powerful being so close...

Oh, and that cheering thing: are you sure it was the cast? Because these OBNOXIOUS girls behind me, who forced laughs and cheered for un-cheerable things started a random cheer in the beginning of the show.
(Also, sitting in the orchestra section was the majority of the creative team. I approached Jeanine and David [separately] and thanked them so much for their wonderful work and told them how much the show has meant to me. The conversation with David was really brief, as I kinda caught his as he was about to leave with his family, but I caught Jeanine during intermission and we chatted for a bit. She introduced me to her daughter and we talked about the show's life after Broadway. She is really the sweetest!) Updated On: 1/6/10 at 05:36 AM

No, I didn't think to ask anyone about the DVD. Shrek's Last Show on Jan. 3rd. I'm hoping we will get more info on this soon! I'm excited to buy it! And I didn't hear anything about London, either.

What side were you sitting on, KirbyCat? I'm talking about the cheering that was obv coming from behind the curtain. That was nothing started in the audience. I'm glad you had a chance to see the last show, it was great to be there! :)

I keep hearing it's coming to London late this year.

No idea if it's true - apparently at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane

If Shrek goes to the West End, do you think the actors (besides Shrek) will use American accents?

I was at the show too and LOVED it! KirbyCat, I know exactly who you are talking about. Like these 4 girls that were wearing the Shrek jackets with a green flower in their hair. They also gave Sutton Foster a standing ovation at the end of Morning Person.

I was actually sitting next to the wife of one of the producers about the show and the actors during intermission. It was interesting to see what she thought of the show and the dedication that went into the show.

Well first of all, Millie, I was front row, house right... But yeah, wdwfreak, THOSE were them. Two were sitting next to me, and two were across the isle. SOO ANNOYING. I mean, they were FORCING laughs. I mean, I get it, our audience was pretty dead, and I laughed and cheered (and cried, but let's keep that on the DL) on cue, but these girls really made it irritating for me!

I could imagine, I was like a row back and like 10 seats over from them and they were still distracting.

I mean, some things are chuckle-worthy like Shrek farting and a flower dying, and I DID laugh it it. But these girls VERY AUDIBLY, as if they wanted the cast to hear them backstage, just forced out a long "HAHAHAHAHA".
Ugh. Shows should ban fangirls.

I was there and I had a lot of fun! I only lasted about 20 minutes at the stagedoor after with the cold, but I did get to see a bunch of the cast come out. I know exactly who you're talking about with the cheering and the forced laughing and the flowers. I was in row k of the center orchestra and I could hear them laughing on occassion.

I was there, my mother won the lottery haha. My mom and my siser sat down it the front row for the first act and then me and my friend moved down for Act 2. I did notice the girls giving strange standing ovations, but I guess since i was in the Rear Mez for the first act of the show I didnt notice.

I did love how they let the swings come out and perform at the very end

I forgot to ask the first time I comment, but were there any special closing night riffs or ad-libs? (besides "We're closing.")

Umm, I'm pretty sure during I'm A Believer Daniel Breaker mentioned closing. I know he did on Sat. night.

Did anyone else notice that the first time Sutton Foster burped during I Think I Got You Beat there was no sound? haha. I loved her face and little chuckle. I bet that was intentional.

But other then that, there wasn't much. The cast delivered some lines diffrently, and did some different actions. There was a few tears at the end.

AH! Loved the absence of the burp! She couldn't stop cracking up!
But Ben added some extra riffs to the end of Big Bright Beautiful World... and also in the scene where Shrek screams "What are you doing in my swamp?!" Johnny usually replies with a short scream that transitions into "Well gosh we were forced to come here!" On Sunday, he screamed for a while, then stopped, paused, and screamed some more. HILARIOUS.
