This sh*t seriously needs to stop. Neither of these shows should be closing. I

Not surprising. But wow.

The only Fall revival that will survive to the Tonys is Night Music.

Yeah, I was the one that posted Variety as a source...what's up with that?

Wow, this is *really* too bad. I LOVED this show. Too great revivals gone.

I am so sad. I really wanted to see this. Hopefully I can get in to see it. So sad.

I agree, it's a shame this is closing so quickly. At least there is a cast recording.

Shame.

That said, another plus in the corner of LA CAGE!

It's too bad, but I'm afraid it was a pedestrian production. It looked cheap, and it just wasn't a piece that would connect with audiences who don't know or care who Burton Lane or E.Y. Harburg are.

It's a shame it wasn't better presented, but I don't think it would have been a hit even then.

The Variety article mentioned that they had wanted to move to a smaller theatre; it's too bad that didn't work out! I loved this production, but the St. James is such a huge house.

Damn. Christopher Fitzgerald is so amazing in this show. What a performane.

This is a great production and I'm so glad I saw it. I got my mom tickets for Christmas and I'm so sad she's going to miss it

Well I think La Cage has that revival Tony win locked up now.

Such a shame, though I'm glad I'll be able to see it next week and that the cast album is on the way. Does anyone know if they're going to have the recording early at the theatre?

A move to another theatre would have been too costly.

Not surprised, but devastated that this happened. If it had been a blah production of a good show or a so-so production of a bad show, I wouldn't feel so bad. But a good production of a great show is tragic, at least IMO. Guess I'm getting too old and have got to accept the inevitable. My best best to all involved and thanks for trying!

Wow. On a whim yesterday I bought tickets on TDF for this Saturday's matinee. I'm coming in from Boston for the day. Had Ragtime been available on TDF I might have opted for that instead thinking that Finian's might have been around a bit longer. But now I'm happy I didn't have the choice. I've seen several outstanding productions of Ragtime but only bad community theater versions of Finian's. So if I can only see one of these two acclaimed revivals, I'm glad it's Finian's.

I completely and respectfully disagree. I connected with Finian's because it came across as a charming, old-fashioned (in a positive sense - I hate the fact that the term is so pejorative!), beautifully-presented and wonderfully cast production.

It totally captivated me, it's a shame I may be in the minority. Is stunt casting really the only way to go nowadays?? re: FINIAN'S RAINBOW to Close January 17

I think in this economy it would be wise of shows with no celebrities to sell tickets to open in the Spring.
