I am genuinly surprised ANYONE could think what was on CIN was 'Fab'.

Sure im no fan of the show, but when it started I thought hmmmm this could be quite good. However I think Duncan and Sheridan are really miscast in vocals and looks. I really didnt think it would be as bad as that

I thought the ensemble were AMAZING, Duncan was AWFUL, I really thought Sheridan was FABULOUS, and I was really surprised at how much Jill suits the role!

Bearing in mind they still have two weeks left to go, and it was a VERY odd medely, which was probably hashed together at 5PM yesterday, they did a good job!

I'd never heard any of the songs until last night, and to be honest I thought it was one of the most tuneless, bland things Ive heard in years. It sounded like a B-side to Hairspray.

The whole thing was designed to give the 'names' more coverage but I thought Sheridan did really well, she was clearly terrified. Given that they dont start previews for another fortnight and haven't even set foot inside the theatre yet, they did a great job. Its also the first time in costume in front of an live audience. They'd also seemed to shuffle lines and choreography about for the sake of the segment which was probably a bad move but I think in two weeks the hitches will have been worked on and lets face it Duncans part is really quite small, despite what people were let to believe last night

Just take a look at the Priscilla cast to see how it should be done!

Priscilla's been open for 8 months, this hasn't even opened yet, give them a chance.

Maybe I prefered it because no matter what I see of Priscilla, nothing motivates me to go at see it. (Sacrilege,I know =P)

Not being opened yet is not an excuse. If they werent ready they shouldnt have gone on. You cant just say, oh heres a sample of our show but we arnt ready yet so on trust its going to be better. Plus some of the problems arnt rehearsal based, for example Sheridan looked way too old (in fact she looked older than she normally looks) and her costume made her look frumpy. Both lead vocals were really weak.

She doesnt look the part at all, I mean we all know what a girl from the valley would look like. Rachel Wooding should have got this part, she would have been perfect, and vocally MUCH stronger.

Personally, if I were investing in this show, id be concerned

As i said i was shocked at how bad it was but you have to remember she was singing sections she does not normally (she were singing Vivian and Brookes sections) and it was a 6 min clip....i dont think the investors should be concerned at all.

And they were underreahrsed, that was apparent, and its not using it as an excuse its a fact (they dont open for a few weeks). And going on CIN need when they were not ready was obviosly just to make people aware that a musical of LB was coming. Whilst Sheridan (who i dont think looked frumpy at all) and Duncan were not great the rest of the cast were.

Great point made by Princeton and Mama was going to make the same point about you should not do the gig, if you have not learned your lines.

Bad advert for the show if they looked poor on Children in Need, critics will be sharpening there pencils as we speak.

While I respect everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I fully expected the Blonde fans to defend it, I do wonder if prior to opening say Dreamcoats and Petticoats, Love Never Dies or someother show that gets slagged off on here had put in such a performance would people still be saying they are still in rehursals, people were nervous etc etc. I suspect not.

Interestingly was speaking to some avid Legally Blonde fans friends of mine about the performance, some defended (bias there though as they know some cast members) but one said he was bitterly disappointed to the point he now wouldnt be booking until discounts kick in.

God, I love the Whatsonstage board. Where this fairly well-reasoned post:

The performance confiremed what i first thought about it coming here..That it was madness to cast Sheridan Smith, the role is beyond her. Shes a talented performer, but she wont have the charm or voice of Laura and the role should have gone to Rachel Wooding. I think we can also safley assume that as its on at the Savoy, that we will get a touring version of what was a very elaborate and slick Broadway production. No one who I have spoken to was impressed by the CIN performance. Yes they are still in rehearsals, but a bad advert for the show this early is surely very damaging for expectations....

gets this response:

What Rot Rachel Wooding is ensmeble standard and thats it,not in the same league as Sheridan in any department.
Sounded great on my surround sound HD tv last night, maybe you lot such invest in some decent equipment and get over your petty jealousies
How many starring tv roles have Rachel Wooding and Laura Bell Bundy done?

Both from unregistered "guest" posters, of course.

haha the first poster is spot on.

As for Sheridans tv work, Ive literally just mentioned it on the Bway board but she plays the same sort of blonde, ladette, dizzy girl in everything. Shes hardly stretched herself in her tv work so far.

You have not seen much of her then, Sheridan has done some great dramatic roles. And i agree she has fallen in to the chav/ladette type role with 2 pints etc but shes good at them and thats her niche for now, i mean shes only 28, give the girl chance to grow.

Also LSOH Was not Chav etc and she did a brilliant job
With regards to her singing she sounded dreadful on CIN but im not going to base an opinion on a 6 min clip which was thrown together medley where she is singing as 3 parts (Elle, Brooke and Vivian) because other cast were not there. I would rather base an opinion on the full show as any self respecting theatre fan should do.

Yeah after year i have seen some dreadful CIN performances but seen the actual show and they did great. Jersey boys mimed loads yesterday as did the priscilla ensemble.

Was it wise to put them on CIN last night when they are still a few eeks away from previews and not ready...prob not, but i can see why they did if only to raise the profile of the show. And where Sheridan and Duncan were not the best the other cast were great and many people did enjoy their performances last night so its worked.

Sheridan has a good singing voice (check the clips i put on the Broadway Board) so its not like this girl cant sing, she had a bad night, we all have them, but for anyone to be basing an opinion on her performance in LB on a 6 min CIN clip well that is just silly.

Majority of her TV Work (2 Pints, Love Soup, Jonathan Creek, Benidorm, that other comedy thats like 2 Pints, and various one off roles)has been those type of characters (dont know much of her straight theatre work)....but even LSOH was that type of character, dumb blonde. She was good in LSOH dont get me wrong, and her voice impressed me (mainly because I didnt know she had it in her) but it isnt outstanding and I did get the feeling by the end of LSOH performance whether her voice would make a long run as it always seemed on the edge.

You might not judge her on that 6 min clip which is great, many people however who are considering paying £60 a ticket to see her...will! The whole point of this clip was to market and sell the show, and to that end im not so sure it has. You dont market a half completed product. But it has also raised issues with her suitability for the role

Its NOT the Broadway production transferring here.
It's a cheap British affair and wreaks of the cheapness that 'Footloose', 'Flashdance', 'Fame' etc had!

Thats white wine glass number 3 speaking!

My best friend was desperate to go and see this. I was going to buy her tickets for Christmas so I could go and see it, but after seeing that Children and Need performance I am having my doubts. I have read everyone's comments, but I'm still not sure it's going to work. I have issues with Duncan James, but I do like Sheridan and was hoping she'd be great. I'm sure I will see it, but I know I won't be paying as much for the tickets as I was originally planning to.

Get them tickets for 'Priscilla'- a guaranteed party pleaser.
Wait and see the reviews for 'Legally Blonde' and later you'll save a lot of money in al the offers that will surround it before it closes.

I, myself, will definitely be going to see Priscilla again (hopefully before Christmas), but I don't really think it's her thing.

Oh well, I'll make sure we go and see Legally Blonde on a day where I'm not working, nor working the day after and get horrifically drunk (responsibly).
