Well that'll probably out run BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS... by a week or two, maybe.

Where the hell did that come from? I've never even heard of this show. WTF.
Current Avatar: Cynthia Erivo, bringing down the house in The Color Purple.

It has been discussed before. No one was impressed and smelled a mega flop.

So, basically, it's the Imperial Palace's Legends in Concert, just with them all performing at once.

The bits they performed during the commercial breaks at the TONY Awards ceremony were dreadful. I guess they were just trying to keep up the streak of flops at the Nederlander.
The show sounded and looked totally awful.

i saw this in chicago last year at the goodman theaterr before they transfered to an open run at the apollo. its a fun show and the audience loved it! the talent is incredible, they looked, sang, acted and played their musical intruments as almost good as the legends they portrayed. oh btw, it has a story line and a conflict.its not just a jamming session.

Maila, I don't know what show you saw, but that's not the one I saw. The show I saw had an anti-climatic story and very poor acting. The music was great, but I didn't care. Here's basically my review of it that I wrote in the last thread:
"It's basically about the night that the four singers all had a jam session and the only conflict was that the producer wanted to renew Johnny Cash's contract but Johnny didn't want that. So that blows over quickly. And then there's just some random chick hanging out in the studio. The only saving grace of the show was the guy playing Jerry Lee Lewis who actually had energy and understood his character. The music is fun but it's like they've created a rock show with the more unknown songs of these artists and then tried to weave this story in. "

I mean, it DOES feature the music of all four artists, all mashed together in one show. So it's kind of like Jersey Boys meets an orgy, and since people seem to really like both, who knows. This might actually do well.

Saw it a couple of years ago at Village Theatre in Everett, WA. Wasn't impressed at all. I'm surprised it's opening up on Broadway.

What is Broadway coming to? Are all of these terrible musicals really going to be on Broadway this season?

I guess Memphis could run away with a Best Musical win, after all. Even if I doubt it will be open by Tony time.
There doesn't seem to be any new musical opening anytime soon that seems deserving for the award.

They performed a couple of times during the commercial breaks at this year's Tonys and they sounded alright. I can't speak to the plot or anything but they weren't terrible and the audience seemed to enjoy them. Still this doesn't sound too inspired or interesting.

Well it's run over a year here in Chicago with no sign of stopping. It got great reviews. Not my kind of show, but to dismiss it before you've even seen a preview seems...well, what do I expect from people who make Tony guesses before the season even starts.
Here’s a hit. A palpable hit.

No good can possibly come from using this vast wasteland of error and deliberate deceit. You should get off of it and warn others away. You should make sure your children and grandchildren know what a corrupt and morally bankrupt institution it truly is.
