I follow all things Ann-Margret and yours is the first mention I've heard of this.
Now... are you ASKING us if they're going to be releasing Ann-Margret's TV Specials on DVD or are you TELLING us they're going to be releasing Ann-Margret's TV Specials on DVD?
Also, none of Mitzi Gaynor's TV Specials were released on DVD. They were going to and they had a gorgeous promo video stating they would be, but they never were. All that was done was that PBS Special titled RAZZLE DAZZLE!: The Special Years, which only showcased the 10 TV Specials she did for NBC. This PBS Special was released on DVD with nice extras, but that's all the was released for Mitzi Gaynor's TV Specials.
I am TELLING you that the Ann Margret specials, will be released in Dvd.I do not know if they will put together like the Mitzi Gaynor one (amazing !!!!).So,I am asking if somebody has more details about it.
On one of them she pretended to be Esther Williams, in a water filled musical number, and Betty Grable, as well. That was sooo long ago. Only saw them the one time, but thought they were very good.
Good to hear Ann-Margret's TV Specials are being released on DVD. I've seen copies of them (in not-so-perfect quality), so it'll be great seeing them the way they were meant to be seen.
Also, I sure as hell hope they DON'T do what they did with Mitzi's TV Specials. That PBS Special only showed snippets of musical numbers and the full ones included on the DVD (not counting the delicious "Let Go" and "Pretty for Me" numbers) were just plain boring. In the actual special, the moment a dance clip would start it was interrupted by someone speaking and then it was over. You never saw any dance number in full or uninterrupted.
Everyone was hoping it was a long TV infommercial for the entire DVD collection of all 10 Mitzi Gaynor TV Specials. Sadly, that PBS Special is all we got. At least we got to see hints/glimpses of some of the numbers she danced, even if we didn't get to see any of the dance numbers in full.
I wish they would release the full specials from Mitzi Gaynor. Razzle Dazzle is hardly ever out of my DVD player, but i'm itching to watch the specials in full
"I hear eight TV variety specials that Ann did in the golden age are being cut up and thrown into a one-hour documentary filled with her vavoomy entertaining skills, the kind that made her the original Britney Spears, but better.
After that, they expect to put out the shows in their entirety--like Rhinestone Cowgirl, a dazzling '70s wiggle-fest with special guests Bob Hope, Perry Como, and Minnie Pearl.
If this sounds similar to the kind of thing that happened with eternal showgirl Mitzi Gaynor late last year, it's because it's being done by the same people".
If it's being done by the same people then my best guess would be this: a PBS special highlighting all of the specials with just excerpts from their musical numbers.
Those same producers original intentions were to release the Gaynor's specials in their entirety and all we got was a special so I'm going to hold off any hopes of this until I see those specials lining a shelf on my bookcase.
But A-M is a star in a way that Mitzi Gaynor, despite her AMPLE talents, just never was, particularly later into the 70s.
Hell, MY generation know EXACTLY who A-M is if only for her Oscar nominated performance in TOMMY which is a huge touchstone still with a lot of teenage boys, me included. Baked beans, anyone?
While I don't have any specifics on these specials, releasing old tv variety shows on dvd is complex. The rights to every song has to be individually negotiated which is sometimes impossible. (same reason some old tv shows with lots of music in the soundtrack are nearly impossible to officially release.) When the shows were originally created the licensing was only for tv (no one could have imagined dvd's) or used a blanket music rights license.
Exactly. These were variety TV specials which used contemporary music. This basically is whats prevented countless TV variety shows from being released on DVD/home video - the rights. Its quite obvious why none of Mitzi Gaynor's NBC TV specials were ever released on DVD (just that documentary) and this entire Ann-Margret documentary and DVD release never materialized. This thread is from 2009 and we're now in 2017 and nothing ever happened.
