Is it a bit bizarre to anyone else that there are no Violins, only Viola and Cello?

Not bizarre to me. There were a few shows on Broadway that only had viola and cello sections in lieu of violins. The original orchestrations for FORUM are a perfect example, because then they added violins for the touring version. And the string section in KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN consists of mainly violas. (Or maybe they also doubled on violin... hmm...) And all violinists in DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS doubled on electric violins and violas (except of course for the concertmaster, Antoine Silverman).
