But on the plus side, it'll contain more music than was actually in the show, including additional songs sung by the cast that are taken from Shakespeare's lyrics.
I'm pretty confident the album being released in October is the same one they're selling at the Delacorte. I don't think the band can afford to cut two different albums. The press release says 28 tracks; the album available now has 28 tracks. I'm sure they'll be the same.
I guess the question is whether or not this is truly a separate release from the Delacorte version, and, if so, are they beefing up the insert? Or if there's some other misinformation going on? Strange...
I wondered if maybe there were only a limited number printed to be sold at the theater since the run of The Bacchae is so short. But that doesn't completely make sense -- because they could easily ship out any extras if they made too many, and that doesn't explain the big gap between now and October. If they're already cut, it shouldn't take two months to make more. But at the same time, I also can't imagine there would be two versions of the album. I'm relatively confident the one I have is IT. It's got all of the cut songs they said it would, and it's not like, the Twelfth Night cast album, it's a Hem album of music from Twelfth Night, "featuring" the singers.
I agree, it wouldn't make much sense for there to be another album. Maybe the one in October will be fully packaged or something since the one they are selling at the park basically comes in a hard-stock envelope with the track listing printed on the back.
So this is a snippet of the message I just got back from Nettwerk:
"SHIPPING UPDATE: The physical release is now Oct.27 so all pre-orders will not be sent out till then. For everyone who orders the pre-sale they will be getting their CD signed as an added bonus as the date has been delayed for so long."
I should have asked about the Public Theatre version but oh well. At this point I hope it does get released with proper packaging at minimum.
It's a shame, because the longer they delay the release the fewer albums they're likely to sell. Already, by not releasing the album during the Twelfth Night run there's probably a significant drop-off in the number of people who would even know an album exists, much less be moved to purchase. Now, with an October delay it's going to be much, much worse.
Does anyone know what's going on with this album? When is it being released? When will those people who pre-ordered it receive it? Then again, maybe it was just me...
