Most shows open with a discount code just to be safe.
I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&.
"Jayne just sat there while Gina flailed around the stage like an idiot."
That's sweet and completely wrong of you to say, wdubs. A show like Fela!, which, while amazing, is pretty much an unknown wild card to most theatregoers, needs to sell cheap tickets to create buzz and word of mouth. Predicting its closing because it put out a discount code is absurd.
I am pretty sure Shrek had discount codes when it first opened.

^ So did Rock of Ages and both are (so far) proving to be successes. FELA! isn't a show that's going to sell on name-recognition or anything like that so they need to create good word of mouth. Discounting makes the show more inviting to people who may not be sure what the show is.

SHREK is something like a $15 million show...so I think it's too early to say whether or not it's proving to be a success. What happens to the grosses in the first few weeks of September should be very telling but I digress...
Yeah, weren't ALL of IN THE HEIGHTS seats during previews something like 65 bucks each? And look at it now...
Shows like FELA! and IN THE HEIGHTS need to do whatever it takes to broaden their exposure at first so they can build an audience for the future. Updated On: 8/17/09 at 12:03 PM
i still dont quite get what the show is and or about. Does someone want to fill me in ? I might check it out on my trip in november but dont know anything about it.

I'm excited for this, but they're going to need to work on their logo. It's cheesy as hell! I love the In the Heights logo, they should go for something more realistic like that. This one looks like Jerry Springer: the opera.
A stupid question, no doubt: Is this THE MOST HAPPY FELLA, the brilliant musical from the 1950's? Or is it just plain FELA!, which I have never heard of? I've been away from the BOARD for a long while.
Just plain FELA! It's a new musical, transferring from off-Broadway.
It's a musical biography (I think) about Afrobeat legend Fela somethingorother, directed by Bill T. Jones.
