Nowhere in this article does it say her musical is Broadway-bound OR that it will debut in 2010. It says the show is "a few years out."

I love how so many people are speculating what's good for her career; anyone who's seen one interview with her knows how much she loves the character, and this seems like something she's really dedicated to, not to mention excited about.

What's wrong with it? It's not a huge step back if she leads a Broadway musical.

perfectliar, if you'd read the whole article, you'd see that Mullally herself is Broadway-bound in the spring of 2010 with a play. That's what that part of the subject referred to.

madbrian, I hardly think Mullally (who has had much more mainstream success both before and after Will & Grace) is in the same boat as Alison Arngrim.

I also wouldn't be so quick to say David Hyde Pierce has "successfully stepped away" from Niles Crane. Many people (including myself) thought he played a variation on the role as recently as in ACCENT ON YOUTH. The heavy majority of the population still sees him as that character no matter what, which is why he is getting so many theatrical opportunities in the first place.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

First of all, I did read the whole article and this whole thread. I know that she's going to be in a play this spring. But the way you worded the title made it seem like Karen was Broadway-bound in 2010. I apologize for misunderstanding, Oh Holy One.

The "Broadway-bound" reference was to everyone else who is saying whether or not this show is suitable for a Broadway house.

So it's been established by now that she's doing a play in the Spring for Roundabout. I was curious if anyone had any other details. I'm dying to know what play it is and who else is rumored to be in the cast.

"And what’s the play in New York?
I’m doing a play at the Roundabout, and it hasn’t been announced yet. They’re casting the other three roles. I can’t say yet. But it’s a good one, I promise. (Karen Walker voice) You’ll LOVE it!"

I'm really curious to know what play Mullally will be a part of. For Roundabout? Why not a musical? I love her singing voice. I really enjoy the fact that Mullally keeps returning to the stage. I don't know how I feel about her doing KAREN: THE MUSICAL, but I'm curious to see how it does.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

She thinks it will be "hysterical" to hear Karen say "F you." Oh gosh, my sides are splitting at the very thought. That is just so hysterical. Yes Megan! You go girl! You go with your creative hysterical ideas! "F you"! I mean, can't you just hear it through that nose? Isn't that hysterical? And Leslie Jordan too. Oh M G. Can you imagine if Karen says "F you, Beverly Leslie!" OMG I will buy premium seats for that. Money is no object. How does she come up with this genius stuff?

Wasn't she attached to the rumoured LEND ME A TENOR with TR Knight?

I'm in love with Megan Mullally. When I saw her in Young Frankenstein, I had to constantly remind myself that she was not playing Karen Walker. Karen has to be the best character in the history of sitcom characters. She can do just about anything with Karen and it would be believable. I'm worried though that without Sean, Eric, and Deborah in the show as well it can't possibly be a success. Karen is wonderful, but the whole theme of Will and Grace is friendship ... so without them how much can Karen really do... I believe that Beverly Leslie will be in the show though. I can't wait I've never been more excited in my life hehe :)

WAG N JAK FOR LIFE!

Nothing new to report about her reported Spring 2010 return to Broadway, but there are several new items about KAREN: THE MUSICAL. Jeff Blumenkrantz is composing, Casey Nickolaw is directing, and Leslie Jordan is co-starring. Currently no book writer.

What production? What show? There is no production and as far as I can tell there is no show - just palaver. Mr. Nicolaw has a very full plate, I'm sure there is still no book writer, and at this point this is just a way to keep names in the "news." And that's what the business is about.

Good.

I'm sorry but I just can't picture this plump, menopausal woman playing Karen Carpenter.
