Have you ever seen a show just for the star, but hated the production?

For example, I saw Julius Caesar with Denzel Washington. He's a great actor, but the "modernized" production was terrible!

It is a little out of control, but to answer your question, Yes. I've seen West Side Story several times to see Karen Olivo as Anita. Aside from Josefina, the production is horrendous. Matt Cavanaugh is terrible and utterly boring. I do however love the addition of the Spanish.

Overthewall, you took the words right out of my mouth. I don't wanna say I hated it. I quite like the score but a lot of the book scenes dragged for me.

Jane Krakowski in DAMN YANKEES. Thought it was a terrible, summer stock production of the show.

I saw Deuce just for the pleasure of seeing Angela Lansbury and Marian Seldes and they were great. The play, however, was horrible.

I'll second DEUCE. Shame on everyone concerned for not insisting that McNally write a better play.

I returned to Victor/Victoria just to see Liza. Thankfully, it wasn't a waste of money as she was far more interesting than Julie.

I don't get the SRS love for TLM. I thought she was amazing in Everyday Rapture but I was completely turned off by her performance in TLM. Every move she made and every line she spoke read as "I don't want to be here". Maybe if I'd seen her earlier in the run but by early May she seemed to be done.
