Did anyone go up to the O'neill in Connecticut to check out the TALES OF THE CITY musical? I caught the final performance of this staged reading. ITS AWESOME! Best of luck to everyone involved. Can't wait to see this fully realized on Broadway!

This is a polite reminder that we do not post even our positive comments on shows seen at the O'Neill. They are not fully realized productions and it is a safe haven for the writers to fall on their ass if need be.

Wow! It's the rarely invoked "no general positive comments specifically about anything seen at the O'Neill" rule! Thank you WestonBoy for reminding us that nobody wants to hear general positivity without a single specific reference to anything at a reading at the O'Neill. I couldn't agree more with you that this thread should be erased and bertandrew, who has been here for almost three years should be banned permanently.

I'm not trying to be a jerk. I just worked there. There is a polite announcement made before each performance that we do not talk about the work we see with anyone who is not there.

I don't think that Bert meant any harm and I never said he should be banned.

My bad! Here's a Hartford Courant article! Frank Rizzo must not have gotten the memo about not commenting. Isn't he horrible? You may have to register at Courant.com to read this in order to be angered by Rizzo's brazen disregard.

All this discussion MUST be stopped, Weston! God forbid there should be early positive word of mouth that's totally general! It's an abomination!

If people brazenly disregard polite announcements, control queens everywhere will, and should, blow a gasket!!!!

If the writers choose to talk about the piece, Namo, that is fine. But Bert isn't a writer. Neither are you and neither am I.

I would say the same thing if someone tried to discuss "Picnic at Hanging Rock" which was read at the O'Neill as well.

I'm simply respecting the grounds on which new works are presented at the O'Neill. George C. White knows what he's doing. Why not respect that?

Look, if you want to say "Hey, I saw TALES last week and it was great!" and leave it at that, it's fine. But you can't sit down with someone and say, "Hey, so there was this number that makes no sense. Let me tell you about it..."

If the three J's that wrote it decide they want to ask your opinion or for criticism, then great. Go ahead. But we don't post or talk about it publicly. It's what the O'Neill asks. And the O'Neill gives us a lot - I'm sure we can do them this favor in return.

And that's all I'm going to say on the matter. You can continue to be a little ignorant ****for the next few days if you like, Namo, but I'm not going to sit here and bicker with you.

No one came out before the show and said I could not talk about the show. There is nothing in the program that says I cant express my opinion about the show.

I was just sayin......

And I'll continue to say what's on my mind when I want. I'm good with it.

Speaking of TALES, whatever happened to Marcus D'Amico, the original Michael? He was soooo very hot and his career seems to have ended shortly after TALES.

He was pretty gorgeous, yeah, DollyPop, but if I remember correctly... he wasn't very good as Mouse. Did you think he was?

Bert, my apologies that no one said it. I was not there for that performance, but at most there is an announcement made.

It's not about the fact that it's good buzz, it's that there is any at all. It's supposed to be a place to put up with the work with NO outside reception, except for certain mentors that are brought in to work with the artists. For many artists, it is their first time really seeing and hearing the piece. That is indeed the cast for Jason, Jeff and John. It's really extraordinary what the O'Neill does in 4 rehearsal days!

The O'Neill is not the only theater that makes this announcement. When I saw the reading of "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" this past winter at the New Play Summit at the DCPA an announcement was made but it was directed more to those with the press. They asked that the reading not be reviewed.

I thought Marcus D'Amico was pretty damned good as Mouse. I wasn't crazy about the guy who took over the role in TALES 2

Weston, if they didnt want ANYONE to say ANYTHING, they should not let ANYONE see it. Just let the authors watch it. But they have a paying audience...and people can talk!! Yes, people can!!!! I'm a people!

And Weston, did you see that I did not give any critique about the show here on Bdwayworld? I gave a general good buzz, and I am allowed to do that!

I beleive it was Preston and Paulette? who both spoke before the show. And all they did was thank everyone, introduce Mr. Maupin and congratulate themselves during the preshow speech. They did not say in any way, shape or form that the audience for this public performance must keep mum.

I saw Haning at Picnic at Hanging Rock on thier opening night. There was no such announcement made.

It was lovely to hear Matt Doyle singing.

This is what I love about the control queen issue:

You jumped on BertAndrew for doing the former, with no trace of the latter, and called for the thread to be deleted. Do you not see a contradiction there.

I'm pretty sure most first amendment scholars would tell you that you can't really charge people $22 to see something and then tell them they can't talk about it with anybody not in the room. Sure, I suppose they could urge or beg audience members not to do so, but short of getting them to sign non-disclosure agreements, it's all moot anyway.

Also, Weston, how do you know if Bert and I are writers or not?

I am so looking forward to this show. It comes from one of my favorite books, and, although we haven't talked in a while, Jason Sellards (aka, Jake Shears) is a former roommate of mine, so this is very exciting on a few levels for me.
