I believe 90+ percent of the people in here want the Democrat, If we have to nominate a moderate, so be it. Go Joe, but my heart says a bunch of them will beat him.

Even more people thought that it was a fact that a dumpster fire like Trump could never win. You may be right that Pete won't win. But I wouldn't be surprised if you were wrong. Facts ain't facts until they happen."

Absolutely, Barack Obama was such a lovely surprise, even when he was in Illinois and wasn't interested in the job. He won for many reasons, and we had eight incredible years with him. And I agree, no one thought Trump would win, which is why we fell asleep at the wheel in November 2016 and didn't bother voting. The swing states, which were so damn important, had such a low voter turn out. In my opinion, it's because both were very unlikeable (I love Hillary deeply but she is cold), but what I didn't think of was the incredible turnout by racist, sexist, and radical Republicans.  Hate crimes went up overnight when he was elected. We failed and it gave us years of anxiety, terror, anger, and completely divided country.

I think everyone has been deeply affected negatively by this monster, and we want him OUT. That is the only objective for next year. I know that is a low bar, but we need the person who can beat this jerk off. We need a candidate who excites voters enough to go out and vote, especially young people and POC. It's sad that it's come to that, but that is what we need. I am thinking of the good of the party. I like Pete a lot, he is calm, incredibly intelligent, and has some excellent plans. But, I think he's too green and I don't want this to be true, of course, but a lot of people simply won't vote for a gay man to be POTUS.

I guess it's Joe, for now, which is fine. I have no idea who Obama will endorse, but it will go a long way with black folks. I just want Trump out, like everyone here I believe, and we need a moderate candidate with name recognition to do so.

Why is Michael Bloomberg in the race???  Last night's debate was nearly perfect.  Amy Klobuchar captured my heart, mind, and credit card.  But, Iowa is do or die for her.

As was evident by last night's debate, if Joe Biden just stays the course, the Democratic Presidential nod will be his.  Slow and steady.

I thought last night’s debate was good. No one embarrassed themselves. I think those who did best were Buttigieg and Klobuchar. Buttigieg predictably received a lot of attacks from the other candidates, but he was prepared and responded well. I’ve loved Klobuchar more and more throughout the debates. She was my favorite of the night. She called them out other candidates for their infighting when they got to carried away into their back-and-forth arguing, but was able to throw a couple zingers back at Buttigieg when needed. I hope to be able to vote for her in the Oklahoma primary.

I thought this was Biden’s best debate performance thus far. Warren is a very effecting debater, but I think Buttigieg put some dents in her “purity” tests. My major problem with her is the math on her plans doesn’t add up and I have to believe she’s too smart to not realize that. Ditto for Sanders who also just seems to think taking loud and in large general talking points is enough. Also, I don’t think the optics were in his favor when he tried to start answering a question about race by instead first answering a question he wasn’t asked.

I have never fully gotten the attraction to Yang, but he did okay even though I think his Freedom Dividends are unaffordable and pretty dumb. And I pretty much forgot Steyer is even on the stage.

I would say by next debate, we’ll probably be down to 4 or 5 candidates. My guess is Steyer and Yang will not be on the stage. I also don’t know how easily Klobuchar qualified for this debate, but I worry if she’ll make the next debate although I think her strong debate performance last night will certainly help a lot.

Tonight is the final Democratic Debate before the Iowa Caucuses on February 3.  The lineup on stage, left to right, is (I think):   Steyer, Warren, Biden, Sanders, Buttigieg, Klobuchar.

Since even before he announced his candidacy, I have believed that Joe Biden offers our country the best opportunity to return to normalcy, and decency and basic goodness.  Tonight's debate reaffirms my opinion.

What can we expect from a Biden presidency in terms of drone murders, imprisonment for life without trial, NSA spying on Americans, persecuting whistleblowers, and other various evil deeds in the name of national security? The Obama administration was absolutely awful on these things; has Biden given any assurances that he’d put a stop to them?

I will jokingly give you Biden's response to your concern, he killed Bin Laden.

Voting Blue for sure.

I’m Team Amy right now. Our primary is next month. I don’t think odds are in her favor to win the nomination, but I like her experience, her saneness, her platform, and her history of getting things done. She doesn’t say kooky things like saying she’ll have a high school student vet her secretary of education nominee. She wouldn’t get excited if a notorious transphobic/homophobic/sexist “celebrity” sorta endorses her. She doesn’t say vaguely (or not so vague) racist things you’d expect you’re grandpa to say at Thanksgiving. She doesn’t talk about freedom dividends and she doesn’t think she can buy the election with a billon dollars. She’s not so in love with her ideas if elected that she’d refuse to find compromise as if compromise means you failed some type of  purity test. All true progress probably involves some initial compromise. She remembers there’s more to the country than the places where far left talk tests well.

For all these reasons, I’m Team Amy.

But of course, in November, I’ll vote for whoever the eventual Democratic nominee is.

I really like Klobuchar too, and hope that a Biden-Klobuchar ticket materializes.  That ticket would strike fear in the heart of the Party of Trump (POT).

While that makes perfect sense if you want to win general election, it would not make the more liberal base very happy. The Iowa caucus is a mess and is not a good look for the Democratic party. Can anybody with a straight face say they will respect the results when they come in.

Even if I trust the results, many won’t and I can’t blame them. Caucusing needs to be a thing of the past. What a horrible start to Primary season.

You asked a question.  I responded.

I trust my Democratic Party to permanently right a temporary wrong.  We're not the GOP, after all.

Just cause we aren't the GOP doesn't mean we're little angels. Why'd the DNC change the debate rules for Bloomberg, is it becuase he was the ONLY candidate to donate to the DNC? It has to make you wonder in this day and age. Ive frankly lost all hope for our system, elections, and government. My theory from day 1 of the Trump Presidency has been that he and the ENTIRE, GOP are corrupt as hell and bought out by Russia. Sounds like our elections are for sale too. We're just so f'd its not even funny.

Why would anybody contest the results of the Iowa caucus? The new app was faulty and the back-up system planned by the IDP (Iowa Democratic Party which is not directly affiliated with the DNC) was ill-prepared. The IDP is painstakingly tabulating the results, I assume they are calling the people in charge at each polling station and cross checking paper results, which is why we won’t get our results until 5pm today. Besides, with the openness of the caucus system it would be impossible to alter results and rig or steal the election.

Yes, it is clear that the IDP made huge mistakes. Yes, the caucus system is problematic and probably antiquated. But c’mon— every candidate was going to spin the results in their favor, anyway.

I’m just not willing to sit here as baseless conspiracy theories are propagated online and end up resulting in another Trump election.

Whose positions I agree with most:  Bernie and Elizabeth

Whom I want to the nomination:  Whoever's most electable

Who is most electable:  Like most Americans, I have no clue, but unlike most, I admit that I don't know and that that's what hopefully the primary campaign will help answer
