I did the cancellation line Thursday and I was first in line. I got there at 6 am (WAY too early btw lol the next person didn't get there until 9:50) It varies day by day obviously but when I went in and talked to the guy at the box office he told me he could not remember the last time they didn't have at least 2 tickets. The day I was there they ultimately sold 6 I got mine at 5 and then the next 2 got in just before the curtain went up. You just have to be patient. I waited for a little over 10 hours but it was fun the people on line were great! Time went by fast once the others arrived lol

Success! Thank you guys for all of the advice here. I went on Friday. I was crazy and showed up at 6:30 am with a chair and layers. I was first. The next three people arrived at 9, then 9:30, then 3 respectively. I waited almost 12 hours. Luckily for me, one of the lottery winners forgot their photo ID, so they sold me the last two lottery tickets around 6:20 for $10 each. WOOOHOOO. Worth it! I believe that at least the two people behind me got tickets, but I am not sure beyond that. Chemical hand warmers are your friend! I had them on my feat and hands the whole time, and it made my life so much better.
I have an ethics question for you guys. I had a lot of fun hanging out with the people in line. We chatted almost the whole time. We also took turns holding each others places so everyone could run to the Marriott for bathroom breaks or coffee as needed. One person ended up leaving and coming back a few hours later and assumed the same place in line. I don't think anyone had agreed to hold the place that long, but then again, no one raised a stink about it. Since I was first it didn't harm me, and the person did end up waiting at least 6 hours in line all told. I felt weird about it though. Should I have said something though? Is this an OK thing that happens frequently.

I haven't done the Hamilton line, but I have done many others. I think that someone's leaving for six hours is not reasonable. I think being gone for an hour, tops, would be okay. I would clear it with the person behind me, though, first.

So how have wednesday matinees been? Im going to try over the next couple of weeks. Do I have a better or worse chance in getting a wednesday matinee ticket as opposed to the other days? I have been hearing mixed things. I figure to try to get there by 7AM. Hoping for the best :)

They definitely have a coat check. Its $1 per item. I had a camping chair which i used to wait in line and left with them.

I understand the dilemma about feeling okay saying something but in that case absolutely! Someone leaving for a short time to go to the bathroom or get food quickly is one thing, but if they are gone more than 15-20 minutes then i do not think that is fair. I am a crazy line person, I hate cutters and don't believe in holding a place, even if it is for someone behind me.If you are gone that long you have given up your place in line. I am actually surprised because when i did cancellation line the first time around the guy who is responsible for keeping an eye on it was very serious about it and wouldnt let people leave even for a moment to enter the lotto unless they had someone fill in as a place holder. It did not seem to be as intense when I did the line a couple weeks ago but they were still keeping an eye.. I also got very chatty with the people I spent the day with but if one had disappeared for too long I would have said something because I hate messing with line karma even if it doesn't affect me since I was first in line, but it did take me a while to get enough courage to say things to people in circumstances like this. Hopefully you don't encounter something like that again!

The lady who was working in the box office the day I was there told me that people were being rude, loud, and leaving trash. The final straw, as she said, was that in the week prior to Christmas there was a physical fight so management decided to move the line outside. When we were there however they were allowing us to come inside 1 or 2 at a time for a few minutes to warm up. They just told us to be quiet which we did because we didn't want to mess it up lol we were all freezing lol

What a shame that some people have messed up that hard that now everyone has to wait outside. Besides that, I assume that the front row tickets aren't sold for the regular $10 price?

I was wondering the same thing as sorano - I had planned to do cancellation line tomorrow, but with lotto closed is that gonna screw with my chances? Is there even room to stand out there with all the snow?

I can't speak to the conditions outside the theatre. But as to the unused lotto tickets, when they had the digital lotto fiasco the front row tickets were given to people with standing room tickets.

Cancellation line luck today, Tuesday, 1/26/16. Got in line at about 10:30 am and there were four people ahead of me for a total of five tickets. After about an hour, two people ahead of me (three tickets) decided to leave to try their luck with resale, leaving a total of six people in line (9 tickets). Two of the parties in line had flown in for Saturday's canceled performances and were leaving tomorrow to go back to LA and San Diego, respectively. At noon, a gentleman came out and said they had two premium tickets and two tickets for tomorrow's matinee. The people ahead of me didn't want the premium tix so I took them and the other person in line behind me who lives locally took tomorrow's matinee tix. We walked back by the cancellation line a half hour later and everyone was gone. A good sign, I hope, for the out of towners who were canceled on Saturday. We walked by again around 3:30 pm and there was no one on the cancellation line. Not sure if that had anything to do with today's lottery cancellation or not.

Oh and there's plenty of room for the cancellation line and the box office line (for future sales) on the sidewalk, just no room for the lottery crowd in the on street corral because the snow hasn't been removed from along the curb.

Forgive me if someone else has already asked this question. I have read this entire stream but I don't remember anyone with this specific query.
If you hire a line sitter, what would happen if tickets became available to your place in the line but earllier in the day than expected, and the line sitter is standing there in your place? Will the sitter purchase the tickets for you? I certainly would think twice about pre-paying a stranger a pile of cash in case they had to buy the tickets for me ... and it sounds like some of the cancellation line tickets are offered at premium prices so it is possible you could be snoozing at home comfy in your bed at 10 am when the box office opens, and possibly (but not probably) your line sitter could be invited into the box office to buy 2 premium tickets.
I am assuming the answer is yes, that could happen, and there really is no solution other than to pre-pay your sitter with cash and hope they don't run off with your money, or just have a sitter for the early morning and replace them in line before your place in line is called?

I would think Pre-Paying with PayPal would be a better option (the sitter can transfer the money to his/her bank) that way there is a record of the transaction (put Hamilton tickets in the subject line).
Remember, you can turn down premium tickets without losing your place in line

When i went a lotto winner didn't have ID so they sold me her tickets for $10 each. I think the front row tickets will always be $10 each.

Thank you Tamra. I have never done a cancellation line before. Its good to know that my instincts were correct, and people were abusing the line. They were so casual about it! Net time I will not hesitate to speak up.
