Recently, Mary Claire King (Liz, Velma Kelly u/s) took over the Chicago the Musical Instagram account. She posted content on what a 2 show day looks like for her. At the same time, she also accepted questions. This is the question that I asked her: What would be the first thing to do if you had to go on as Velma, unexpectedly? Her response was: "Oooh, great question. 1. Steam my voice while thinking about my lines and my blocking. 2. Warm up vocally. 3. Time pending: run my blocking for (All That) Jazz onstage. 4. Review my cheat sheet of entrances and exits. I sometimes wondered what happened in this type of situation. Miss King was gracious to give us a glimpse of what might happen when an understudy (unexpectedly) goes on as one of the leads. A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
