Corbin Bleu,Michael Salazar, Brooks Ashmanskas or Chris Sieber, Beetlejuice &Ain't Too Proud might have a few? And if COMPANY and HADESTOWN move, "Jamie" and Patrick Page will be eligible."
I think Patrick Page would be a lead along with Amber Gray. If Girl FromTheNorth Country comes in I think Todd Almond could get a nomination."
Orpheus and Eurydice are the leads of Hadestown structurally, despite less stage time than most leads. They would be fools to petition Amber and Patrick as leads instead of supporting - the roles are meaty for supporting but sparse for leading. There's no way they'd win if they're nominated as leading, but I'd say they have a very good chance as supporting.
Having seen Glenda do Lear in London: it is a marvelous performance, but my pick out of the two would be Elaine May. And with Glenda winning last year, I can see them giving it to May. Although that didn't stop Metcalf from winning 2 years in a row. Also I suppose Glenda's performance could have a different feel under new direction. Although knowing what we now know about Glenda's relationship with Mantello during 3TW, I can't really imagine her altering her performance much based on the whims of Sam Gold.
It’s such a great role!
I know we have Ruth wilson, but Diana is perfect for an Actress.
And we still have Ruehl and Allen just with the plays already doing previews. The noms for both seems likely.
Also, can Laura Donnelly win Lead against May or Jackson?
After all, she won the bafta over Imelda doing Martha in virginia woolf, Lesley manville doing Mary Tyrone and audra as Billie Holliday.

In addition to delivering an astonishing performance, Elaine May will be the sentimental favorite at the Tonys. I don't think anyone will beat her.

Elaine May is simply extraordinary. But there will be another octogenarian in a running show come Tony time (Glenda Jackson's Lear). I would love to see May win, especially since Jackson just won last year, but I fear she could be overshadowed by Lear. Though Tracy Letts won for a fall play over Tom Hanks and Nathan Lane in spring shows, so anything is possible!

I just saw this last night. She is leading. She has more stage time than Beetlejuice. The program has her and Brightman as the first name (although under the title).
I personally found her to be the weakest person in the cast. I don't think she is deserving of a nomination.
And if win come tony night, youngest winner.
I agree that there are several strong contenders for Lead Actress in a Play, but Elaine May has more going for her than just her remarkable performance. A well-respected 86-year-old screenwriter/actress/director/comedienne returning to Broadway stage after 57 years (to the same theatre, no less) doesn't happen every day. Her performance is Tony-worthy on its own, but I think people will WANT her to win, and I think that counts for a lot.

She will be 17 come Tony time. Andrea McArdle was 14 when she was nominated for Annie. Liza was just 19 when she won for Flora. I think she could be the youngest winner in this category.
