Agreed. Broadway SF booked itsentire 2019-2020 season at the Golden Gate, which takes us through “Mean Girls.” That closes Aug 2, so BSF left open plans to keep Hamilton at least through July if it continues to meet financial plans. Until it reveals the 2020-2021 season (or announces a new block)we can’t tell whether it could extend beyond August. I was honestly surprised, given the discounting that started in the Fall, that the Spring extension happened. But everyone must still be making money, which makes me happy to have Hamilton around for another five months.
"

Actually, the season ends with.My Fair Lady. Golden Gate, August 5-30.
"

Thank you. That’s what I thought, but the BSF app shows MFL starting April 5 (but running through Aug 30). I chose to believe the starting date mistakenly.

Returning to Inception's question, Broadway Las Vegas announced Hamilton beginning Sept 10 of this year.  Given the Angelica and Philip tours will be in Denver and Cleveland respectively at that time, I think it safe to assume And Peggy will depart SF and resume its touring at the end of the summer.

BroadwaySF just sent an email that all tickets/all seats for March 3 evening performance will be $10. You need to join the lottery as all sales will be via the lottery.

Considering the Australian tour is supposed to begin early next year, wouldn’t be surprised if they send the San Francisco package down under.

Just curious about when the 20/21 Bway in SF season will be announced.

Right now my plans for the first two weeks in September is to fly into SFO & head over to Yosemite NP for few nights, then from there head back to the coast for about 5 days: Santa Cruz, drive down Big Sur & back up to Monterey, before heading into the city for about half a week.

I last visited SF in 1999. Back then my priorities mainly involved getting laid. Hamilton San Francisco

I'm really hoping it is a good year forest fire wise. If things turn bad this summer, I'll scrap the Yosemite portion of the trip, and then I could see Hamilton in SF before it closes. But, last year I saw Hamilton in both Chicago & NY; and I have plans to see it again this spring in LA. So unless I need to change my itinerary for safety reasons, I'm not going to change my plans to see Hamilton.

When I am in the city I hope to see Fidelio at SF Opera, & I see that a smaller theatre group will be doing Follies. Also Lehman Trilogy will be opening then.

It's hard to predict the fire season, but from my experience it gets bad in the Bay Area around October / November-ish.

Also, yes, San Francisco Playhouse is doing Follies this year, and apparently they were able to cast Karen Ziemba! (Not an official announcement, but they mentioned it in their subscriber's newsletter last year)

Re: Hamilton, it's not surprising given that ticket prices have fallen, and there's a lot of Goldstar availability. I wonder if touring shows will start going in the Orpheum again?

Remember that we'll be getting Moulin Rouge at the Orpheum summer of 2021. I'm certain the touring productions for upcoming Broadway SF seasons will land there (and the Golden Gate).

I’ll be sad to see Hamilton go, but a year-and-a-half is about average for a SF sit down. Phantom was an outlier. It might’ve stayed longer if 1) there hadn’t already been a 4- or 5-month run in 2017 2) there weren’t two other national tours circling the country and 3) LA’s sit down hadn’t been announced before this opened. We’re lucky to live in a market large enough to support longer runs.

I did see the show Wednesday to check out the new cast members. Paris Nix is a great Lafayette/Jefferson. I enjoyed Simon, but Paris has a much clearer French accent. He still plays Jefferson with comedic flair, but he also plays him more sinister rather than the cool guy. I’m glad Marja got promoted to Angelica. She has a strong voice that is able to rise above the ensemble in Schuyler Sisters in a way Sabrina’s couldn’t. The show was in good shape Wednesday.

The And Peggy company was only ever going to be in SF for 18 months, and then it goes on tour.

BroadwaySF customers with tickets to canceled performances through May 31 will be automatically refunded to the method of payment used for purchase in performance date order. We thank you for your patience."

Was the bloom falling off the HAMILTON rose here long before C19? I’ve no doubt it will reopen and run a good long time in NYC, and tours will probably continue to sell well. But I was thinking it’s time was coming to an end here anyway. This spring they’d been doing lots of cheap seat offers. Was it playing to capacity? The Orpheum is a barn with 2,200 seats.  Always feel bad for cast, crews and musicians, as well as local theater staff.

Can anyone confirm which of the touring casts is doing the 2021 4 week run in San Francisco? I'll confess I can't keep track any more!

Thanks so much!! Assuming we don't have a change of heart in the next 48 hours, my partner and I will be there on Tuesday.

Looks like the cast is a combination of people who were there before shutdown, and some faces I don't recognize (the last time I saw Hamilton in San Francisco was December 2019). I saw Darnell Abraham go on as Burr at that performance, and thought he was phenomenal. Looks like he's been promoted to the full time George Washington, and I'm excited to see what he does.

Went to the first performance tonight with my partner.

Show thoughts:

-This was my first time back in a big theater, and it was quite surreal. I got emotional over dumb stuff like the merch stand and even the stairs to the Orpheum's bathrooms.

-*Tons* of applause for every character entrance in the opening number. The music stopped for a good 15+ seconds when Julius Thomas III made his first appearance as Hamilton.

-The And Peggy tour cast was largely the same, but with some new-to-me faces. Victoria Ann Scovens was a phenomenal Eliza, and really carried the heart of the show. Darnell Abraham played Washington with really strong Obama vibes, almost to the point of being distraction, but redeemed himself with his belt in One Last Time. Paris Nix was a fun Lafayette/Jefferson, and really nailed some of the harder bits in Washington on Your Side.

I've seen Hamilton 3x before, but it hit me differently this time. There are so many lines about life and death; "I may not live to see our glory", "When's [death] gonna get me, in my sleep, seven feet ahead of me?", "How lucky we are to be alive right now." We've all been in this place the last 18 months of either losing people we care about, or being terrified of it.

For the first time it really hit me what the characters were living through in the first act, and what it means to keep fighting despite the impossibility. For me, the show became about defiance and standing tall in the face of calamity and world-changing events. Needless to say, I cried through The Schulyer Sisters and That Would Be Enough. (Plus It's Quiet Uptown, but that's just a given!)

No speeches at the beginning or end. I wish there had been more to mark the occasion, but it was still a really special night of theater.

Health and Safety thoughts:

-The Orpheum staff really did check everyone's ID and vaccine verification, and actually scanned the barcode for the digital verification on my phone. I'm sure people can fake these things, but they took the process seriously.

-We purposefully chose partial view seats on the far left. This meant I could dash to the restroom at intermission before a line formed, and we quickly exited onto the street after the show.

-I really wish theaters would just stop selling food/drinks for the foreseeable future. I enjoy a drink at a show as much as the next person, but it's not a critical part of the experience, and it means more time with people unmasked. (For context, I still don't eat indoors at restaurants. And yes, I know that they sell food/drinks to make money).

-Wearing a mask for 3 hours is not the most comfortable thing in the world, but I was more than happy to do it in exchange for getting to see real, live people singing and dancing a piece of drama in front of me. (For God's sake, the last time I saw a live musical was in March 2020!)

-Audience members were largely good about following the masking rules, but for God's sake, we're 18 months into this, and some people still don't understand that the mask goes over your nose. A woman several rows ahead of me was doing this at intermission, and unfortunately it took me out of the whole experience for a bit. (I work for my local public health department's Covid response, and I have to look at post-vaccination data all day. It's hard for me not to think about these things).

All of this is to say: I think feeling safe at the theater depends on your own risk calculus. My partner and I are in our 30s, vaccinated, no underlying health conditions, and we're not caring for anyone vulnerable. Still, we still play things pretty cautiously most of the time. I'm *really* glad we went, and I think the theater did a lot of things to make it much lower risk, but it's still not a no-risk situation, unfortunately.

Kitsune,

We've never met, but I did think about you tonight and wondered if you were having a good time (or went at all). It sounds like you did a lot of strategic planning.

I'm glad things went well for you and that the show was well-performed and moving. Yeah, I would probably have trouble with all the eating and drinking in a packed house. Like you, I haven't dined indoors since all this started. Unlike you, I don't work for a public health agency dealing with COVID-19 response. I'm sure it is difficult to take that particular hat off, even for a night out.

Aww, thank you, bear88! It's a bit tough when the subject matter of my work is constantly all over the news, but for the sake of my sanity I try to compartmentalize as best I can. Technically my fiance and I have tickets to see some shows in New York this fall, but we're still waiting to see what happens.

It hasn't been well publicized, but are you aware of the Woodminster Summer Musicals production of "I Do! I Do!"? It's playing this weekend and next. It's outdoors and (I believe) reduced capacity. Nothing is 100% a sure thing these days, but it's a less risky option.

Maybe not the best place to.put this comment, but seemed most relevant thread.

Finally saw this cast yesterday, as the And Peggy tour is currently playing Vancouver at the 2765 seat Queen Elizabeth Theatre.  It's a huge wide, spread out space. This is the first time Hamilton has hit Vancouver so prices are ridiculous.  I sat in the dress circle as I didn't want to spend more than $150, but that is still about a city block from the stage.

I thought Julias Thomas III was a very good Hamilton.  I enjoyed his performance more than the one I saw on Broadway in 2019 from Ryan Vasquez.  Thomas is a bit more stern & less playful than Miguel Cervantes.

Even though the whole performance was amplified & the sound was good, I found Paris Nix as Lafayette/Jefferson difficult to understand, as he sort of mushed his words instead of properly enunciating.   It made me appreciate more now what a good job James  Monroe Iglehart did in the role when I last saw this show.

Donal Webber Jr. is a great Burr, and Marja Harmon a fantastic Angelica.  For the matinee,  understudy Charlotte Mary Wren was on as Eliza, and she has a very sweet & clear voice.  When I hopped on the train afterwards, there was a group of about 12/13 year olds who had seen the show for their first time.   They were complaining that she hadn't made them cry.  I've never thought Eliza was supposed to make the audience cry at the end - but I'm not 12 or 13.  (This is just meant as an amusing anecdote, not a critique of either those kids or the performance.)

I can't find the thread where someone recently complained about recently seeing the current Bway cast & feeling like they are playing jokes too broadly now.  While I would hesitate to use the term "broadly," I think that was already part of performances I saw in 2019.

I don't think that I need to see Hamilton again anytime soon.  But I do wish there were more shows of this caliber playing both on tour & on Broadway itself.  In particular I hope that the new tour of Les Mis is a good one, even though the nearest it will come to me is Seattle & not until next summer. (And unfortunately at the 5th Ave instead of the Paramount)

One other amusing anecdote from an overheard audience conversation while leaving the theatre: a fellow in his maybe 30's said to his girlfriend or date, "That's the third play I ever seen in my life.  These things aren't too bad."

I caught the Angelica tour in Durham last weekend. I had no intention of seeing the show (I had already seen it 3x on Broadway - once with the OBC), but when a $130 resale orchestra ticket showed up on Ticketmaster, I decided to check out the tour. It was great - it had been awhile since I had seen the show, and I really lost myself in the lyrics and genius of the wordplay during this viewing.

The cast was mostly quite  good with some members being way better than others. The lighting looked a little cloudy and jaundiced to me. Not as crisp and vibrant as I remember it looking on Broadway. The sound was also a little too quiet IMO. I remember the Rodgers literally vibrating with palpitations when I saw the show in NYC. Overall, very solid tour, and I can't complain too much considering I got a great deal on the ticket.

I saw the show it’s first week in town, the Friday night, with our subscription tickets. These are located in the balcony.

I thought the cast was uniformly incredible, but I had a very hard time understanding Paris, Darnell, and Victoria. Both Darnell and Victoria got more clear by act 2, but Paris I never really good the words from. I had a hard time figuring out if it was diction or sound related.

Regardless, ended up winning the lottery and got to go back on week 2, Tuesday performance. This was row 2.

This time we had Milika for Eliza, and Ellis for Lafayette.

Zero issues understanding words this time around. And my god, the show from row 2 is incredible. The entire cast was insane, but big shout out to Donald Webber Jr. for giving an outstanding performance as Burr.
