I just read 10 articles regarding season 3 of Pose and not one of them has said it was the final season. Unless you have a link, it's clearly false information.

The only thing I heard recently was Ryan Murphy saying the series would end in 1996 when medications became more accessible.

This is an interview where he talks about the series jump in date and the 1996 comment. I have not come across anywhere where he said 3 series.

"Murphy also added that he envisions “Pose,” which was renewed by FX for a third season, ending in 1996, the year that AIDS medications became more accessible to patients. As it stands, “Pose” currently pits its characters against the spreading disease, lacking the resources both infrastructural and medical to combat it."

Aw. Tonight’s season finale episode was so good. Despite a couple of wonky episodes, this season is where I feel like the show finally found its identity and voice.

Tonight actually could have been the end of the series so it will be interesting to see where it goes. I figured Murphy would integrate the newer medications in the coming season and that it would jump ahead in time. The episode tonight was a tear jerker. What makes the series universal to its credit is that people who have ever felt marginalized can relate to it which is a lot of people.

The season finale was very good compared to the rest of the mostly awful season. This show, almost more than any other in a long time, highlights Murphy’s total ineptitude when it comes to scripted tv for more than one season.

I just caught up to this series within the last 4 months. I have to say that although it is groundbreaking in many ways in regards to the representation of transgendered actors of color on network television I can't help but feel that there is something inherently off about this show. It tends to get overly melodramatic...almost bordering on camp...and not the "I'm laughing with it" kind but the "I am laughing AT IT" kind. Some of it borders on pure fantasy...some of the things being written simply would not have happened. It's like some revisionist, alternate universe version of the late '80s/early 90s ballroom scene. I wasn't expecting a documentary but I also wasn't expecting to have my intelligence insulted either. 

I agree with Jordan Catalano on his assessment re: Ryan Murphy. He certainly is consistent in his inconsistencies. Everyone's dreams were being tied up in nice little bows last night that I'm left wondering what else is left to explore?  Where is this series intending to go? Will new, fresh characters be introduced next season. I felt these particular characters had their stories told and had no where else to go...

Every once in a while a show comes along where I take it for what it is and just enjoy the world it has created instead of criticizing it. And that is not to say that I do not recognize some of the weaker elements. I never understood why people watched Dynasty or Dallas. The acting was not very good and it was like a bad soap opera. But it found an audience and people loved to talk about it with their friends and colleagues. I guess to each his own. 

I also wonder if varied generations respond to Pose in different ways. An older generation might be more moved by AIDS storylines and might find the series more groundbreaking.

I think that varied generations will respond to POSE in different ways, especially  millennials who did not live through the horrors of the AIDS epidemic when it was quite literally a death sentence. 

I'm all for guilty pleasures - shows and films that are so bad that they're good - but not in shows that are supposedly touting themselves to be groundbreaking and dealing with important issues, but maybe I'm the one who's wrong in thinking that. Maybe POSE *is* supposed to be a throwback to all those campy films and tv shows like DYNASTY and VALLEY OF THE DOLLS. In that case, it's hitting it's mark and succeeding.

I think the show found it’s footing in season 2 although it definitely had its weaker episodes too. Either that or I just started getting in step with it rather than wishing it was something else.

I have younger friends (early 30’s) who love the show. Since they didn’t live through this period, they’re less bothered by the inaccuracies as portrayed.

I know this is slightly off topic, but this show made me revisit PARIS IS BURNING and now I'm having a bit of a hard time looking at RuPaul and Drag Race in the same way. I know RuPaul was very much into the ballroom scene and brought much of that sensibility into Drag Race, but it almost feels like the success of the show is in large part due to these trans women who are rarely offered a seat to at the Drag Race table. 

Am I way off base and reading too much into it?

That's a very interesting question. I don't watch RuPaul's drag race so I can't speak to that. He was very much into the ballroom scene "back in the day" so I am quite surprised that there is a lack of transgender representation on his program.

I'm a very very casual Drag Race watcher. I've seen maybe a dozen episodes over the years, so I am by no means an expert, which is why I could be very, very wrong about my assessment.
