SEA WALL/A LIFE to Broadway |

Ive been on the extreme side up in the balcony, so at a similar angle. If you have a choice, take the house left seats. Jake stays just off center, so no problems with this monologue. Tom moves around the stage but doesn’t go too far stage right. Hope you can get tickets! Have you tried for rush tickets? There’s both digital (via Todaytix) as well as in-person.

I dont have much flexibility and can only do one certain show, so I need to buy in advance not to miss out.

For the stage door, I was in a great spot considering I was in the back of the orchestra, and pretty much ran through the hotel cut through to get a good spot after bows. I solidified my spot a bit down the barricade, however there were already a lot of people there which was surprising to me. Some of the people I saw had programs however I wasn't looking very hard, but it seemed to me like some people had came back to get them signed, and other people who hadn't seen the show were just there to try for pictures. Once I got my spot I stayed there and they came out very quickly, like within 10 minutes quickly. Both of them signed everything they could however this guy next to me kept asking Jake to sign stuff until Jake said "I signed a lot for you man, sorry" so YMMV I guess. Jake did sign my Sunday in the Park CD, and was nice enough when I asked him to do it. From what I gathered from other people in line, the only stuff he wasn't signing was for Spider-Man. Tom was really nice and signed my playbill as well.
I will say though, the amount of people at the stage door was a NIGHTMARE. Major props to Jake and Tom for being nice about it, but I was at the front and was getting pushed by people. At one point when Jake was in front of me I had about 4 programs next to my head and people were yelling his name. I'd say that if you see the show and are trying to stage door definitely get there quickly because it was a madhouse.
The show itself was AMAZING. I sat in the back row of the orchestra but could still see everything perfectly; if you're on the fence about buying tickets I would advocate going for it if only for the second act(A life) alone. Jake Gyllenhaal gave a masterful performance, and combined with fantastic writing the show was beautifully tragic, and yet delivered a great message of hope. As for Tom Sturridge, he was really good too, but the writing was not as good as A life IMO. However he delivered a great performance for the material. Sea Wall was just a little too grim for the point of being grim, there wasn't much of a message behind it, which was only highlighted by A life right afterwards. If anyone is considering buying this but isn't sure I say absolutely go for it before it closes, especially with todaytix being so cheap.
Sorry for the mini essay, but that was my overall experience. If anyone has questions I can try to answer :)
I like Jake a lot and I thought his story was the better of the 2 but I didn't like the material for either. I usually enjoy more serious / dark plays but this one just didn't connect with me at all.
If you want to see it on the "cheap" $83 for a pair after fees on the today tix rush is the way to go.
