Hi Child of Earth,

We've lately been having a bit of a discussion on the board on what can and cannot be said. Our users want more transparency on our end on why things are deleted.

While the opinions posted here absolutely do not necessarily reflect my views or the views of the site and our team - we have to respect the fact that our users are entitled to them.

If we were to censor all opinions we don't agree with as a site, that would be a slippery slope and we don't think it's appropriate for us to do so or make that call. 

We're being more transparent and thoughtful in if we're removing content or not. Our team actively reviews and discusses each item reported or flagged on a case by case basis before taking action or not.

Matt has very eloquently discussed this throughout this thread.

If something moves into hate speech or personal attacks, we'll deal with it as it comes up. If you think we've let something stay up incorrectly, we welcome that feedback.

Of course, any time you see a rule violation please report it and we'll deal with it.

I know that this might be frustrating (there's a lot of things on the internet I don't agree with), but if the conversation stays productive we're going to let it continue. If things become heated/hostile, we may lock the thread as a record.

Our goal is to only remove things as a last resort in the interest of transparency.

Racism isn’t a view. Neither are microagressions. So BroadwayWorld isn’t profoundly racist itself, it just doesn’t see the need to curtail racism or racist posts even when people of color tell you that they disturbing.

Hi All

We as a team have decided to lock this thread because we think the conversation has run its course. As has been mentioned by other users - engaging with people you disagree with who have differing views from your own is one way people can learn and change. 

That's why we left this thread up to begin with. We were hoping to allow our users to have this discussion - which is one that is happening prominently in our industry and others.

BroadwayWorld as an organization, and the members of our team personally (and I know I speak for Rob, Matt, and myself here) are all in support of diverse and equitable casting - and I know that's somewhere we can improve on with our coverage.

We'd welcome any suggestions on how we can improve our coverage there and would love to hear any ideas the community has.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We don't always get it right the first time - but we're listening to our members and working to strike a fair balance between transparency of removals and moderating content.
