Butler's participation would be the icing on the disaster cake. That wounded-moose bellowing that he subjected us to in the movie, man oh man oh man.

How would they get him to take off his shirt? That's about his only redeeming quality these days.

Well put, Sally. And nice Photoshopping, guys!

Roscoe -- easy. Can't you see it coming from a mile away? Christine's son will have a birthmark, and they'll have to see if the Phantom has a matching one . . .

It always makes me laugh to hear people slam Butler for his singing - Michael Crawford is the possessor of one of the ugliest voices in the world, and has made his career off of the tricky effects that can be done with a microphone and amplifier. I saw Phantom in NYC in 1989, and I can remember (even at that very young age) being happy that he'd been replaced by Cris Gronendal and that Brightman (another foul voice) had been replaced by Rebecca Luker.

Why would you expect to replace a rotten singer with a good one? The role was written with a rotten singer in mind!

As long as he leaves the other Phantom open, I think I will be fine with a sequel. Its not like its gonna get passed previews.

figaroindy: I can't stand Crawford either, but at least he didn't growl the score like Butler did.

Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!

My favorite part of this is the reaction of Butler's fans. I really like him in general, but he's not the most amazing, most brilliant actor that some of them worship him as.

But, oh wow, the fuss over the sequel among them. Most of them ignore the fact that it's a RUMOR no matter how many times they're reminded. And, if you don't want to see him in either a stage sequel or a movie of it, you're not a supportive fan.

Of course, one of them even said that it is the Phantom's will that Butler play the role again.

Fine. Let Butler do it. It is about the kind of thing he deserves to be associated with. At least it will keep him from infecting any more movies.
