Disney gave Rapunzel a happy ending in INTO THE WOODS instead of her being killed by the giant so it seems likely that they’d give Ti Moune a happy ending.

I don't need there to be a happy ending.....I just think she deserves better than being a f'ing TREE.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I think a film might be able to actually SELL the tree thing. Remember, the sequence onstage plays out simply as storytelling, with little action or visual: we are told that a broken-hearted Ti Moune is basically given a loving, gentle assisted suicide by the gods, then they reincarnate her as a tree, and that tree cracks the hotel walls and helps to end colorism in Haiti.

It feels like a shaggy-dog story because all we have is this tacked-on bit of storytelling. Imagining it with a visual instead, the roots of the tree spreading, the wall cracking, some visual callback to Ti Moune's own dance and movement... THAT sounds like an ending image that could justify the moderate silliness of the ending as presented onstage.
