So, Tammy is awful and everything else is great. Pretty much sums up every review. Good to know. Shame that Megan Hilty moved to L.A and never does musicals that last more than a week anymore.

Blanchard wasn't awful. It's just that she wasn't equal with the rest of the cast. It was the vocals that sucked. Her characterization of Audrey really wasn't that bad.

Saying she was not awful and then saying her vocals suck really makes no sense. You have to be a strong singer in a musical, especially when everyone else is. Im shocked they would cast a weak singer in this honestly.

I saw the show tonight. The show is in great shape. The audience tonight was really enjoying themselves and a few of the cast members mentioned the great Friday audience that they had.

I have to agree with everybody. Borle is just so good! He plays multiple roles and is just terrific. Each character was remarkably different and uniquely hilarious. Groff is really good too and it’s nice seeing him onstage again. The voice of Audrey II is great. And I loved, loved, loved the Urchins. I actually liked Tammy’s acting and she looked great. Picture Debi Mazar and that’s what you get. She struggled with the higher notes and when Suddenly Seymour ended, all I could think of was, “That was rough.”

But it’s totally enjoyable. So nice seeing it in a theatre that’s so intimate. I sat in K3 and had a terrific view of the stage (only thing I would miss was the window on the left when one Urchin stood there to sing). But the other two Urchins were on the other side and so it wasn’t like I missed much. Yes, legroom is non-existent. I’m 5’6” and my legs were cramping.

Go and see the show.

How can you misquoteviagalactica6 so badly? She first saidBlanchard's "doesn't compare to Ellen Green" and then "wasn't equal to the rest of the cast". Taking that Blanchard is just a bad singer takes away all the nuance fromviagalactica6's post. Plus a musical is two parts, singing and acting, there are definitely some singers who would kill this part but then ruin the show as they don't know how to play the character.viagalactica6's post aligns a lot more of what other people saying that Blanchard was miscast.

It's best to ignore the comments from those members who are prone to dramatic, hyperbolic, and generally meaningless posts. Fortunately, since I have most of them on "ignore," I only have to see them when they're quoted by someone else.

Very good advice, I have ignored people before, but I've only used it very sparingly which might be my bad.

I surmised that she is awful from all the reviews and some friends that have seen it that all called her the weak spot of the production. Those are my words. It's not like I only read that poster's view of the show. Then, I quoted their words "it was the vocals that sucked". Perhaps you missed a post or are tired or something but I did not misquote anyone, thanks.

Completely agree. It's unfortunate they cast someone who.... can't sing the songs? I thought that was pretty standard for a professional production!  And I understood what you were saying perfectly, you didn't misquote viagalactica6.

LOL Pose2 EXACTLY quoted viagalactic, no misquote. I am not trying to stir the pot, this is just funny someone else is trying to walk back another person's comment by attacking another poster for quoting that person.

I concede my comment does not add to the discussion. I'm still very excited about going to see the show!

I saw the show last night and I loved the entire cast, including Blanchard. It genuinely felt like she lives on skid row. She simply acted it out of the park, even in the songs. No-- her sound isn't the typical polished  musical theatre sound, but I think that's part of what makes her performance incredibly interesting. Borle's characters completely shone and Groff was great (as we all knew he would be). I just loved seeing the show in an off-Broadway theatre. A great night.

Thank you, it's funny the twisted things that people make up in their mind to be offended by, and then attack others with. What's even funnier was the "defense" post that they just posted and quickly deleted.
Anyways, have a wonderful time at the show!!! heart

This was the most fun I've had at the theatre in a long time!

Everyone was great, and the show flows almost flawlessly. The sound does need a little work, so hopefully they'll get that figured out before opening.

Everyone went crazy at the prologue, since it wad the twenty-first day of the month of September. The audience missed Borle's first cameo, but he got lots of love on his second pop up. Groff was great and really got into the camp. He actually broke during It's Just the Gas and was convulsing in silent laughter in the dentist's chair because Borle is absolutely hilarious and over the top in all the right ways.

I thought Tammy Blanchard played the role well. She was campy but also heartfelt. I did hear some of the straining, but I went to stage door and THINK she said they are lowering the key next week. I was a little far over, but that's what it sounded like.

Overall, everything was amazing, and I'm really sad all the tickets are sold out because I'd love to see this again. I'll definitely try lottery when I'm around. Does anyone know anything about a cancellation line?

Yes. The merch stand had 3 (I think) t-shirts, window cards, magnets, keychains, and little plants you could purchase. That's all I remember seeing.

I don't think that comment is fair to those who pay a pretty penny to see a live performance.  Sure, Ellen Greene is the gold standard but she's not the only actor/actress in theater who have shined in their respective roles. Others have come in afterwards and killed after original casts have moved on...hence standout performances in other revivals.  When I see a musical, I expect to see someone in a lead role who can SING especially in the heartbeat of NYC's theater world.  She didn't deliver in that dept hence the criticism.  BTW, if she indicated that she cant hit the higher register (or lower for that matter) without straining that should tell you she was miscast for a role that demands those kinds of vocal chops.

Also, look out for a fun photo op in the downstairs lobby. The door to the stairway has the logo above it and bloody hand/nail scraping on each side of the frame. Lots of people were taking pictures clutching the door frame like they were being dragged away.

I just want to pop in and say how much I enjoyed Tammy Blanchard in this at first preview. I think that she is bringing an old Hollywood actress quality that is faithful to the character but different from Ellen Greene's, where other major productions have basically featured imitations. I was quite moved by her as well. The production is good.

Tammy Blanchard is an incredible actress. I’m sad I couldn’t get a ticket to see this and her. I don’t mind imperfect voices. Some of my favorite stage performances are by non-singers. Martha Plimpton is one example (who I also think would make an amazing Audrey.) I adore Greene but I don’t need to hear her belt replicated to relate to Audrey. I need to hear the desperation and release.

You make this sound like it is Tammy Blanchard's fault that she was cast as Audrey. Surely anyone can see that the producers are the one to blame for casting the role with someone who cannot meet the vocal demands. As I said before, it would have been best to have cast a talented unknown who would have had nothing to lose by making the role their own and who would have had the vocal chops as well.
