An update on Convention speakers in regards to VP: it appears in addition to Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris & Gretchen Whitaker have also been slotted to speak. The New York Times reports “As a precaution, planners have scheduled speaking times for some top vice-presidential contenders in case they are not picked.”

I think I'm right in saying that there have been 14 Vice Presidents who also served as President.  John Adams; Thomas Jefferson; Martin van Buren; John Tyler; Millard Fillmore; Andrew Johnson; Chester Arthur; Theodore Roosevelt; Calvin Coolidge; Harry Truman; Lyndon Johnson; Richard Nixon; Gerald Ford; George H. W. Bush.

And in eight years, we can add our first female Vice President to that list.

Where things stand 81 days, 00 hours, 46 minutes, and 40 seconds before the November 3, 2020 election:

1. Both the House & Senate adjourned without a coronavirus relief deal. Senate reconvenes on 9/8; the House on 9/14. 2. Both chambers have to send the potus a FY2021 appropriations/ funding bill for signature real soon because current funding lapses on 9/30. Another shutdown anyone? 3. Can this Congress actually crank out both a coronavirus relief package & FY2021 appropriations bill next month with half of Congress in campaign mode AND will you-know-who sign them? 4. Why are mail-in ballots okay for the potus' domicile Florida but not for voters in other swing states? 5. President Biden's first act should be to send AG Bill Barr packing followed by the current Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.

Once the Democratic Party became the party that advocated for civil rights, it alienated voters, especially those in southern states, who were not supportive of equal rights for African American citizens.

So guess they lost a lot of southern states, but the trade off was to pick up the North-East states, it wasn’t possible to pick up both? Texas now seems to becoming more liberal and I guess it won’t be long before it is blue?
