She's 87 years old. I can't imagine that if 2016 had gone differently that she wouldn't be enjoying a relaxing retirement by now.

Wow. What a gutsy move. She basically had to do that to avoid becoming even more irrelevant than she already has become. It would have felt a lot more meaningful had she come out strong and endorsed Joe before Joe was the only candidate left to endorse but underneath all the idealism and the plans for this and the plans for that, she's just another political opportunist not unlike the rest of them.

"But Charlie, it's important. She's got a strong, dedicated base and her endorsement and telling her supporters to vote for Joe is huge."

Well, I hope she does a better job motivating her supporters to come out to vote for Joe than she did to vote for her. She finished 3rd in her own state for crying out loud.

Almost no American voter will see the choice this way. The two parties are further apart now than they have been in decades, if not forever. Many see Trump v Biden as a choice between fascism and democracy.

I think this was well played on Warren's part. I don't think she had anything to gain by endorsing sooner, nor would it have made a difference.

More grist for the mill...

Biden holds 5-point national lead over Trump: poll

Biden assembling White House transition team

I suspect that some of Trump's current circle of sycophants will start bailing on him soon to salvage what remains of their reputations.  I'm left wondering where KellyAnne Conjob will land after Trump's reign of incompetence draws to a close.  Perhaps she's already lined up a gig as in-house counsel at the Trump Foundation.  Oh, I nearly forgot that the allegedly tax-evading cash-grab was dissolved by court order.  Deets here

In hindsight, now that it has come down to this I wish it were Hillary about to be president and not Joe Biden. But at least the Trump madness will end soon.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

As "Sutton Ross" told me and I agree, this board in 99% Democratic liberals so I will not expect to change anybody's mind. All I will say is that exit polls had Hillary Clinton winning on election night in 2016, guess they were wrong. This poll is a snapshot in time and could change 20 million times between now and election day. Yes, I would say the same thing if Trump had lead over Biden now.

I've lost count of which primaries and caucuses might still be pending, but Joe has also won Wyoming.

Thank you.

The Democratic National Convention, originally scheduled for Milwaukee in July, was recently pushed back to the week of August 17.  Maybe.  There's talk of a virtual convention.

And then there are the Presidential debate(s) between Biden and that other guy.  Assuming that other guy agrees to participate, these could be debates without an audience.

Yes I am quite aware it is obvious but when somebody posts a poll in April making it sound like a big deal that Biden has 5 point lead I just thought I would mention the obvious. Have a nice day Uncle Charlie.

Logically though, if something is obvious to anyone who reads it, it probably is not necessary for anyone to specifically mention it, wouldn't you say? If however, you said you feel the need to "knock down" anything that represents something even remotely positive for the Democrats just on principle, regardless of how screamingly obvious it is, at least I can better understand your motivation. In any event, happy Sunday, congratulations again on your promotion and remember, Lysol and Clorox are for EXTERNAL USE ONLY.

Did you see the "Obama White House Story" thread I created? Kind of funny that such a nice story did not get one reply to it. Let me know if you ever created a thread about any Republican that nice. Did you miss that I said that I would not think much of any poll right now if Trump was up by 20? My wife is clinical nurse supervisor in large hospital in Charlotte NC and just found out today that lady she shares office with is being tested so I am not in the mood for your sarcasm about Lysol or Clorox.

Well, a lot to unpack there. First and foremost and I want to make sure I don't bury the lead, please accept my sincere hope for the health and safety of you, your wife and everyone in your family. Your wife, the other nurses, doctors, hospital staff members and other first responders who are risking their lives every day to save the lives of others are the real heroes in this crisis and I have nothing but respect and admiration for them.

Yes, I saw the Obama White House story and personally thanked you in this thread for posting it which you then told me you appreciated. I'm sure with the stress you're probably feeling, your not recalling our exchange was an honest oversight. I will say, your continuing surprise or perhaps disappointment that nobody else responded should have been somewhat expected. We both know you consistently speak negatively of Democrats and their candidates. To use a bad analogy, if someone tells someone else every day for 30 days in a row that they're ugly, on the 31st day, if they tell the other person they look nice today, they probably shouldn't be surprised at the lack of gushing appreciation coming back at them, though as I said before, it was a very nice story. I had tremendous respect for John McCain and there was a point in 2008 before I became sold on Obama and before McCain selected an idiot as his running mate, I briefly considered even voting for him. But I don't have any need to prove some level of objectivity by starting nice threads about Republicans, especially now when I believe Trump and McConnell are set on destroying what this country stands for, for their own personal gain.

Whether you would have said the same thing if Trump was up by 20 is irrelevant. If something is obvious, it doesn't require being pointed out. Timing and context is everything. You are keenly aware of the demographics of this board and the high emotions about this election in particular. You could have easily just let it go but despite admitting the point was obvious, you still felt the need to remind people hoping to get out from under the most evil and incompetent president in American history and wanting to enjoy for a brief second a good piece of news that they shouldn't, cause it doesn't mean anything. When you said "All I will say is that exit polls had Hillary Clinton winning on election night in 2016, guess they were wrong." it felt like a jab. Beyond just saying "remember, polls can change", it felt like it was designed to make every Democrat remember the most disappointing night of their lives politically in the last 15 years. You could have simply said nothing and could have also just ignored my 6 day old post that had a bit of gentle ribbing but you didn't. Brian Dennehy was one of my favorite actors and it really saddened me greatly when he passed on the 15th. In his memorial thread, someone mentioned somewhat good naturedly he was abrupt one night at the stage door. Others jumped in to share plenty of very positive experiences with him and that was that until you felt the need to try to "explain" it by reminding everyone he was an alcoholic. You're factually correct of course, but it was unnecessary and felt tone deaf on the day we were mourning his passing. I was tempted to write a snarkly reply to your post because it bothered me, but I let it go because it would have added nothing. You can occasionally do the same as well.

My last comment about the Lysol was not poking fun at you, it was poking fun at Trump with tongue in cheek for an utterly idiotic comment and the subsequent pathetic efforts at spinning it. If you as you said are still deciding and your vote will be a "game time decision", it shouldn't have bothered you and you might have laughed along with the stupidity of what Trump said instead of reacting like a typical hardcore Trump supporter but, whatever. With what you've got going on in your family, maybe the answer is just stay off social media for a few days and focus on what's really important cause making sure you quickly respond to every comment by some guy you don't even know on a theater board sure isn't. But obviously that's up to you to decide for yourself. In any event, to repeat my first point, my hope is for you and your family to remain safe and healthy during this most difficult time.

So, they canceled the primary in New York, originally set for April, and then June. They could have just done all mail in votes like they were planning, I don't know what happened. I guess it wasn't a huge deal since Bernie dropped out before it was going to happen. I think NY is the only state to cancel and not just postpone. Bummer.
