So far, it sounds like the ingredients for a massive hit. So far, the only indications I see that it may completely fail are either the Lord of the Rings syndrome (budget far too big to sustain the show) or a plot convoluted to the point of incomprehension.

Bono + Taymor + Beloved superhero + massive spectacle

And it has been explained time and again that it will not be a standard book musical, so I'm not sure where people get the idea that it will be lame, laughable, or bad. Other than the theatre elite, of course, who cannot tolerate popular entertainment on Broadway.

I still can't decide if this is going to be a big money-maker because of all of the Spidey fans out there, or if its going to be a flop because the parents of their 5 year olds don't want to dish out $100...
I'll probably go anyways for this sh*tload of a spectacle though...

I believe Reeve may be known through Julie Taymor, who cast him in her Tempest project, but I didn't hear anything about him being in the lead for anything. By the way, Julie did mention that once the mask goes on, anyone (or any number of people) could be Spider-Man, so I don't we'd be seeing Reeve swinging on anything.

But I will say that he sang the songs beautifully at the sneak peek, everyone was trying to remember his name (because we couldn't quite understand it the way Bono said it).
