I should have seen this when I was in Las Vegas. The dummies on the proscenium were all covered with a black drape..is that right? then after the chandelier was lifted in the PROLOGUE part - they removed the black drape to reveal this :
I saw the Micheal Crawford back in the day in Phantom in LA and then I have seen t he production in Vegas last year and I would have to say that the Vegas show was 10 times better. My boyfriend who hates musicals LOVED the show in Vegas and actually said that he would go see it again!
Yeah, if only they could retrofit the Vegas staging into the Broadway/Touring versions. It's hands down a better show, even with the cuts. I'm very glad they decided to re-look at the show when opening it in Vegas, as it's so much more fresh!
Its not seen as a revamp. They are two separate shows and always will be! ALW has stated that from day one.
A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!''
Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'
Thank goodness they are two separate shows. Once again, the Broadway Phantom should not be touched. Regardless of whether the technology is better, it still works and its still charming. Alot of the charm is the 80's look of the show---everything old is new again.
I did not mean to disparage Vegas audiences. What I meant when I said that Vegas audiences are more "duh" is that when you go to Vegas, you go there to have a wild good time with all the gambling and partying, etc. You don't go there to sit through 3 hours of August:Osage County or even 2 and a half hours of Phantom. It makes perfect sense to create a new version of Phantom for Vegas. But JUST for Vegas.

I've been to Vegas twice and certainly didn't go expressly to do that. While lots of people do, you probably shouldn't generalize.

Most shows but not all are trimmed down to around 90mins for Vegas presentation. Works for some but all of them.

Lizziecurry, I didnt mean to imply that every single person who goes to Vegas goes there to drink and gamble. However, its reasonable to say that the vast majority of visitors do go to Vegas for the casinos and the bars.
