- Spring Awakening not winning best musical or lighting design - Monk or Bundy winning best leading actress (well, it'd be a surprise if Ebersole lost to anyone in that category, but it wouldn't be as shocking if it was to Murphy or McDonald) - Groff winning best leading actor - Mary Louise Wilson not winning best featured actress - The Apple Tree winning best revival
Actually it would be a travesty, Murphy and McDonald are giving great performances, but Ebersole is giving a perfect, stunning, stellar, for the history books, critically acclaimed performance.
I would say that a possible upset is Gavin Lee over Raul Epsarza. If MARY POPPINS doesn't win BEST MUSICAL, which it probably won't, this could be their constellation prize (like Idina Menzel for WICKED).
I was waiting to go into CURTAINS and some lady was on the phone:
"I'm seeing CURTAINS. With David Hyde Pierce. Who? He was on that sitcom. A few years ago. He was a brother. I don't know, I forget what it's called. He is very funny."
So even people who know who David Hyde Pierce is don't know who David Hyde Pierce is.
Maybe the person she was on the phone with was none too bright. That "some TV show" ran for a very long time. People know who he is.
As far as Tony surprises, it's anyones game, like it or not so nothing would "surprise" me. Some upsets would be more enjoyable than others but nothing is a given. Aren't there many threads on this topic already?
Melly Still winning direction of a play for Coram Boy would be a nice surprise. Also, Bill T. Jones winning choreography for Spring Awakening would also be a nice surprise. I think the choreo. in SA is so wonderful and interesting and it completely fits the style of the piece. I'm not so sure Mary Poppins, Curtains or even Legally Blonde meld the choreo. and story together as well as Spring Awakening.
I personally thing a lot is up for grabs so nothing will really suprise me
the only suprise would be if something other then utopia won best play, im pretty sure the producer of frost/nixon said he has to go to NY just to lose to utopia.
"and in the end the love you make is equal to the love you take"
APPLE TREE wins Best Revival MARY POPPINS wins Best Musical Audra McDonald wins Best Actress
And you think of all of the things you've seen, and you wish that you could live in between ,and you're back again only different than before...
After the Sky.

While I'd like see Raul win, I think a win by DHP wouldn't be so far-fetched. I can see the voters wanting to award Curtains for something, and it may very well be with Best Actor.
A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.
This definition is kind of amusing considering the context here. From the link that tazzy posted:
"verb
To copy (the manner or expression of another), especially in an exaggerated or mocking way: ape, burlesque, caricature, imitate, mimic, mock, parody. Idioms: do a takeoff on."
Have I ever shown you my Shattered Dreams box? It's in my Disappointment Closet. - Marge Simpson
Mary Poppins taking Best Musical John Gallagher Jr. taking Best Featured Actor I'd love to see Gavin Lee take Best Actor over Raul, I just wasn't as entranced with his Bobby as others seem to be, and I think Gavin put on a magical performance as Bert. I don't know why so many are rooting for someone to upset Christine, the woman is giving a legendary performance, and she more than deserves to be recognized for it with the Tony. I'd LOVE to see High Fidelity take Best Set Design, that'd be a surprise and a welcome one!
