Two of my friends went last night and had a blast. It was a perfect end to their evening: catching a film at Tribeca, dinner, and then DQYNJ. They really loved it and want to go again. Rave reviews from both!
You lucky New Yorkers! If someone wants to adopt a poor church mouse from Buffalo and let me come frolick in NYC--please do! "Don't Quit Your Night Job" would be definitely on my list. :o)
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?
I heard that Tracie Thoms sang Seasons of Love as the madlibs tonight. Was anyone there?
And a note to Michael Riedel- re: Your NY2 comments last night. I felt many were rather rude and tacky. When talking to and about people in person, be a little classier please.
Great job to Greg Reuter, who subbed in for Steve Rosen! Loved Stacie Morgan Lewis' Popular rendition as well.
The audience was packed and very participatory. Lots of bway actors in attendance, nice to see them supporting their friends. Updated On: 5/6/07 at 12:28 AM
Oh, Collins Greenley! Or should I say "Oh mah gawd. Collins Greenley." It has been far too long since I've seen Night Job (a.k.a. two months). Hopefully soon.
Glad to hear it's going well!

I'm thinking about legally changing my name to Lizzie Curry...
Tracie Thoms was very funny singing about her "jockstraps of love" and "condoms of love".
It was a very funny show, however I do wish they would have kept the show downtown where it had a much cheaper ticket price not to mention that insanely high 2 drink minimum.
I usually just get bottles of water or soda, which keeps the price not so high. But yes, those drink prices are killer, that's how the club makes their money though.
I am going tonight, excited to see Will Chase, Jordan Gelber, Nicole Parker, and Lisa Jolley again, as well as the regular crew! I don't know who Paul Vogt is (Bones or House or something on tv?) but I love seeing new people perform.
The show was very funny today, as usual. It was very crowded too, which was awesome for them. Though I felt like my friends and I were the only people calling stuff out for the first half of the show!
The special guests (Paul Vogt and Nicole Parker) were hysterical, especially her "defying gravity" scene and his CANDY! poetry slam.
The musical "Captain Crunch's Seamen" was one of the best musical NY2 segments I have seen.
Will Chase sang a madlibs version of Imagine from Lennon.
What's not to like? Last night was awesome. I loved how Paul Vogt and Nicole Parker didnt just do the special "guest star" things but participated in all the improv sketches.
Replay is my absolute favorite sketch and last night was one of the funniest I've seen. A scene set in a jacuzzi and replayed in the styles of porn, star wars and cartoon.
What I love most about the show is that you can see it over and over and its always entertaining because its never the same. Different casts, different sketches, and of course different audience suggestions.
I chimed in with the "Cartoon" sketch, but I never was any specific about the "Dora The Explorer" style. That was even better than what I suggested.
I also chimed in with the idea "The Monkeys Attack" for NY2. I loved how they put it on stage. I also loved how Nicole got her revenge on the monkeys (who overthrew the humans with a Macintosh computer) by "sending them a PC virus". I liked how everyone chanted "Send, Send, SEND SEND!". That was absolutely freaky how they got all that down so fast. And it really made me hoot when Jordan Gelber lifted Nicole Parker up by her legs and they did the whole defying gravity moment. That was hilarious.
Those were my two favorites of my "ideas" being brought to life.
"Someday we'll all fornicate together And the world will live as three!" That was last line of musical madlibs. I will never forget it.
"How could she just suddenly, completely disappear into thin water?" - The Little Mermaid
Loved the Defying Gravity. I agree that it is amazing how they can all just get an idea down and be so in sync with the singing and ideas and everything. Looking forward to seeing it again next weekend! I hope they announce the lineup early again.
Guests slated to appear as "surprise" celebrities this week are: funny-man Bruce Vilanch (Spalding Gray: Stories Left To Tell, "Hollywood Squares," Hairspray) and Amanda Green (High Fidelity) on Thursday, May 10, Spelling Bee's Dan Fogler and Mo Rocca on Friday, May 11, songwriter Christine Lavin and Broadway and film star Patrick Wilson on Saturday, May 12, Broadway leading lady Melissa Errico (Sunday, May 13th), and Broadway favorites Kat Foster (Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, "Mad TV") and Tony Award-winner Andrea Martin (Monday, May 14th).
Last night's show was great, "MacGyver the Musical" was quite entertaining! And then he came back later in "I Have Herpes!" (we really need to work on some of these titles).
Nancy Opel's "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina" madlib was awesome. And I want to give props to David Rossmer, who makes the giving of the words extremely entertaining every show.
Bruce Vilanch was a bit of a wild cannon with his celebrity press conference (he was Carol Channing in The Color Purple), I don't think he understood the game very well. But his backstage stories about the Oscars and things that never made it on the air were very funny.
Replay at a Six Flags as an Animal Planet documentary, Film Noir, and musical, Harry Potter's Eulogy, If We Ran Broadway, Amanda Green (from High Fidelity) sang a song she wrote, trying to remember what else was done. Favorite performer of the night goes to Jason Kravitz for his NY2 musical improv skills. Can we get cast recordings to some of these shows they make up on the spot? They are really good! Are people really paying $55 plus a 2-drink minimum + tip ($70+)for a 1 hour show?
It's on all the papering services. Will this really last at these prices?

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

It's press week now (opens on Thursday), so my guess is like most shows do for press week, they are offering it on comps to make sure it is really full. Last night was pretty packed, and I know a ton of people who are going throughout this weekend as well.
