If a girl isn't pretty like a Miss Atlantic City, she's a really Miss Nobody U-S-A!!!

...bump?

Sorry, I was just listening to it, and I felt the need to bump it. Funny girl is worth more posts. Come on, you guys.

I am a huge Funny Girl fan! I'm afraid a revival could never live up to Barbra and the original. Such an amazing score though. A lot of my favorite songs aren't even in the film. Who Are You Now? and The Music That Makes Me Dance are brilliant, and never fial to make me cry like a baby.

Oh my god...what is wrong with you people?

You all would rather...post about your WICKED and RENT than FUNNY GIRL?!

I've never seen a stage version other than my high school's production (which I didn't get to see a lot of it)--so any revival would be great to see.

I LOOOOVE FUNNY GIRL!!!

I think I could watch the dvd over, and over, and over again.

I too would love a revival, but has it been "officially" talked about at all, other than us BWWers speculating about Stephanie J. Block?

Will I be shot if I say that some scenes of Funny Lady pack more punch than those in Funny Girl? For example the scene when Nick comes to her dressing room and she says 'you don't have any lines here. It's my turn.' is very touching.

As far as "How Lucky Can You Get?" is concerned it is better than 99% of the CHICAGO film. A star on fire.

I still get chills watching her walk through the empty theater and, without a single word, you just KNOW that she owns the place. I love the show/movie/soundtrack/sequal. It is, hands down, one of the best moments in american musical theater ever.

I absolutely love the "You are woman, I am man" scene.

It is just so cute!

I adore SJB, but I don't want to see her play Fanny Brice in any hopeful revival. If anything I would love to see them get somebody less well known in the Broadway community.
I don't care who can simply SING the part. I want someone who also LOOKS the part.

I heard that she's not very good with the part...which is sad to hear--I'm a HUGE fan of hers. Even if she wasn't good in it, I'd go see it.

Some people said KELLY CLARKSON for the part.

...?

You suppose she kept on getting hired by different companies and winning awards for playing the role cause she sucked? Cool, maybe I have a chance afterall!

I love "Funny Girl" and would love to see it revived...with a newcomer. I don't think any of the Leading Ladies of Broadway are right for Fanny, and I certainly can't think of any household name worthy of the part.

Anyone else see Leslie Kritzer as Fanny at the Papermill Playhouse a few years ago? I thought she was terrific--big voice and great acting. No Barbra, but who is? re: Funny Girl Fans Unite! [and Funny Lady]

I saw this movie once. That was really enough for me. I'm not a big fan of Barbra Streisand but I am a fan of Jule Styne, especially his scores for GYPSY and GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES.

The movie's music is great, the overture is a standout but then again it's a Jule Styne overture! The first 1/2 of the movie was fine very well done. The second 1/2 was a big bore.

Streisand's "schtick" got old and annoying real fast. I also found it laughable that she's supposed to be young when the film opens but she's perfectly made up, mascara and all and has the longest and most perfectly manicured fingernails for a poor Jewish girl living on the Lower East Side!

So for me what I really do love about this show is the songs. The songs are standouts.

Played Eddie Ryan years ago. What a fun show.

I read/heard somewhere that Joley Fisher was itching for the role. Does anyone know if this is true and where this may have come from? I love Joley Fisher, I think she's crazy talented...not sure about her for Fanny Brice though. Thoughts??

fflagg, I won't shoot you. I absolutely LOVE Funny Lady and its score and sometimes, just sometimes, I choose to watch it and not Funny Girl.. re: Funny Girl Fans Unite! [and Funny Lady]

I LOVE Great Day and How Lucky Can You Get (That dress!!! Whoa!!) and that scene you mentioned with Nick in her dressing room is one of my all-time favorites because it is just...heartbreaking. (Except that line you quoted is actually from their other meeting in the movie, after she watches him play polo..) Also, both If I Love Again and Isn't This Better have got to be two of the most touching, beautiful songs ever written, and both never fail to make me shed a tear...Simply gorgeous.

Love me some Barbra! I LOVE this show! Never seen a live production BUT if I were to, it would have to be with Stephanie! She would ROCK! As for Steph being too pretty for the role, nonsense!! I got told the same thing for a role - it's theatre!!! We can ACT and use makeup.
She did indeed, win awards for playing Fanny! It would be awesome to see her do it on Broadway!

I just CANNOT believe I have plowed through two pages of posts about songs, music, casting, blah blah BLAH.

Let's discuss what makes this film magic: the hair! the outfits! the nails! the pale coral lipstick! Hello Gorgeous!

Favorite outfit? The leopard turban and hat after Nick uncovers her plot to "help" him out of his troubles.

Favorite hair? In the train station before "don't rain on my parade"

Favorite shot of the nails? So hard to say--the movie is about the nails, of course--but I'm going with the pale pink French polish back-lit during the proposal dinner.

HEY MISTER KEEENEY!!!HEEERE I AM.
Love it.
The FIRST time I saw this, I was taking a cab with my friend Lisa, who is maybe even a bigger Streisand fan than I am. We were late and she told the cabbie to step on it, her friend, me, was having a baby! The cabbie floored it, we got out and ran into the theatre.
You must never watch this film with me. I will sing every song and say every line. I'm so annoying.:)
