Dear BOJ,

There have been suggestions on this board that every Broadway show be videotaped and then made available when it ends its run.
A whole new industry aat One Shubert Alley could be the result!

I'd just like to throw the thought out that some people only post about what they are interested in because they are afraid that if they post on something they are not comfortable about they might seem foolish and be blasted for it.

Isn't it equally annoying to have people post on EVERY topic no matter that they really add something TO the topic or not?

Also isn't it a shame that if you do have an interest, you can’t post on it without fear of being blasted? As long as your staying on one thread that anyone who does not have an interest in can easily ignore, why does it cause such a stir? Where is it a requirement to read and comment on every post/thread/topic? If you don’t like/have an interest in the subject why not extend the courtesy of NOT reading/posting to it?

Example: I have no interest in Melanie Griffith therefore I barely read any of the posts about her and I didn’t post on/to them.

One of my other pet peeves is jumping on people for their spelling/grammar errors when they are making an attempt to communicate. In a perfect world, everyone would know how to spell every word and have perfect grammar. As long as you understand what they are trying to say, why not consider the mistakes they make as "talking" with an accent? Isn’t it more important to get the idea across then to look at the form it took to get it there?

Ok enough of my pet peeves.

Re video taping of shows, it will not happen. Union restrictions along with everyone connected with it would have to get a slice would make it prohibitively expensive. Below are a list of shows, good & bad, I would love to have a copy of

1. It's A Bird, It's A Plane, It's Superman"
2. Baker Street
3. The Producers
4. Legs Diamond
5. Long Days Journey (Current revival)
6. Dance Of The Vampires
7. Jekyll & Hyde (with Cuccioli & Eder)
8. Scarlet Pimpernel
9. The Civil War
10.Jane Eyre ( for my wife)

Dear DofB5 (is that short for "Date of Birth 5"? Just curious.)

How could you encourage bad grammar and spelling?
As an English teacher I am outraged by your statement.

We all make an occasional typo, but Rob has equipped this message board with an edit feature, so we can correct our errors even after they're posted. Good grammar and spelling seem to be a dying art in our culture, but I refuse to let up on my campaign to make America grammatically correct. Heck, we try to be "politically/correct",right? I never leave the house without my red pen and continually correct the spelling errors on menus and on the signs in the supermarket. In fact, I've caught the manager in the frozen food section of Waldbaum's scurrying about checking the spelling on the signs he'd just posted on the freezers when he saw me heading down his aisle. I also bring a pad and red pen to Mass every Sunday and pass the priest a critique of his sermon. He seems to be genuinely appreciative. If you're going to make a living off the Bible, shouldn't you know how to pronounce "Nebuchadnnezzer"?

I am known at the local radio stations because I waste no time in calling the station to correct the grammatical errors that the on-air personalities make. They have improved considerably since I've taken them under my wing. The same is true for news anchors in New York. In fact, one anchor at Eyewitness News used to call me before the 5 PM telecast to check the pronunciation of certain words--mostly Italian ones.

No, my dear, an English teacher's work is never done. We must strive for perfection at all costs and not fall into the "amazing" and "awesome" abysss of laziness. I shall continue to call errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation to the attention of those who make them!!!!

Long Live Funk and Wagnalls!!!!!!!

My Pet Peeve is the ridiculous obstacle you have to go through to order tickets through ticketmaster and all the charge fees it cost to have tickets mailed to your home plus surcharges for each ticket. Ticketmaster expects you to type in one minute all your credentials etc and then to find out you have exceeded the time and your tickets have been released. By the time you have completed the obstacle you could have driven into the city spend the $6.25 towards tolls and parking and got the tickets at the box office. does anybody else have a problem with ticketmaster. Turning personal lives into the subject for a posting.

We all have some aspect of our personal lives that we'd rather not be the subject of conversation in a public forum of strangers.

Yours for a better Broadway!

Thanks, Dollypop.

I am a terrible speller and even worse typist, but that is why we have a “preview message” function on this board.

I often type my longer posts in to WORD and cut and paste them on the board. It is very easy and it will catch most typos and spelling errors. It is good etiquette to post the most grammatically correct post you can.

However, “Dollypop” is not in my computer’s dictionary, so if I ever misspell it, forgive me.

PEACE.

* Talking about "best shows ever" or "best actors ever" when it appears that one has only really seen 2 or 3 shows "ever."

* Overrating actors or actresses because they're unknown. There's a culture on this board that actually thinks one is more talented if they've never made a name for themselves.

* By that respect, I can't stand it when people think that it's "stunt casting" if an extremely talented person who has become FAMOUS for being talented is cast in a role on Broadway.

* Hating/Loving shows one hasn't seen. The only think more annoying than someone talking ill of a show they've never seen is someone raving about a show they've never seen.

* Posts that have no sense of history. I know that this is not always one's fault. You either have a sense of history or you don't. And I'm glad that there is a lot of fresh enthusiasm on this board. However, it still bothers me when someone acts like John Hillner, for instance, is some newcomer on the Broadway scene. The guy created one of the roles in the hit show, CRAZY FOR YOU! He has been on Broadway several times before this stint as a cover for Daniel Davis. It's also driven me crazy when people talk about someone like John Tartaglia (who is WONDERFUL in Avenue Q) like he's some sort of Broadway legend but then has never heard of people like Billy Porter or Brooks Ashmanskas, who've been on Broadway for years!

My personal pet peeve ist when people mock those who "do not know" rather than take the initiative to teach those who "do not know." Because at the end of the day everyone has his or her own separate idea of what knowing is, and wouldn't it be best to share?

My major pet peeve are the endless new threads about Idina Menzel, Wicked, and "who's going to play Elphaba when Idina leaves." Related to that are the multitudes of people on this board who act like they know everything there is to know about Broadway, but in reality, the know nothing about broadway pre-Rent, and don't really know of any actors other than Eden Espinoza, Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, and John Tartaglia.

Which brings me to another pet peeve - something that irritates me to no end - is when people refer to Kristin Chenoweth as "Cheno." It makes me want to throw my computer out the window!

AMEN to Dollypop!
Spelling and grammar errors (within reason) are inexcusable!!!
And some people don't even try to improve. I for one have noticed a huge improvement in Liam's posts, and find that very encouraging. If he can improve, so can everyone else!

2) People saying "huh?" and mee having to repeat myself.
3) Threads about that one musical with the two witches who fight a lot.

I'm trying not to make this threat one of them. Is it working?

The term "dated". Because it dosn't mean anything. What it means now is something completely different than it will mean in two weeks (or some other indeterminate period of time). Pieces don't go bad like a carton of milk. What was good then is good now. What was popular but mediocre (or a matter of opinion) then will remain the same now.

Also bashing a show that got generally lousey reviews (ie Brooklyn). Now that takes REAL courage.

These are just my opinion and probably my problems. I may be wrong.
