Although I do enjoy a taping of an actual live show, like several sondheim shows, if they did this with RENT, please please do it with a different cast. In my opinion, the show has lost the feeling, spirit and energy it had years ago. I'm not saying there's no talent there, but something has been lost. I know it's been running for quite a while, and like a lot of long running shows, they tend to lose their spark so to speak. So I would be in favor of seeing a new artistic approach to the show, like on the big screen. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing like live theater, but to tape RENT live the way it is now, I think would be an insult to the show it used to be. So I do hope they make a movie, bring some of the effects of cinema to a great show and we'll see it in a different light.

I'm going to have to thorw up all over this movie. Really I love RENT and by them changing it and all that ruckus it's just going to ruin it for me! Why do they do that??!?!!

I have mixed feelings about a movie version of RENT. I thnk the bottom line is that it depends on who writes/directs/produces/and casts the movie. The cast has to perfect. I, for one, would love to see some of the OBC in it. I agree with what Jakebloke said about the show losing some of its sparks. I was not fortunate enough of to see the OBC but from everything I hear they were a very tight family while doing the show, and that came with them while performing every night and THATS probably what gave them that spark that seems to be lacking now.

As much as I do, indeed, adore the OBC of "RENT", aren't most of them a *bit* too long in the tooth to do the movie version? I say get some hot new talent for the film version.

Love,
Joshie

Go JakeB...ya'll need to listen 'cause JakeB has a point! Why not cast someone like Justin Timberlake? It would bring tons of people in to see Rent...and isn't that the point? Don't you want Rent's music and message to reach the largest auidience possible? Isn't that the whole point of commercial art? It's snobbish to say things like "I couldn't stand it if they cast..." "I would vomit if they ruined..." Why not accomadate a broader auidience? Especially if there is respect for the material...Besides Rent exsist already. As an original cast recording and as a broadway and touring stage production and no "movie version" can ruin your memory of that. You need to broaden your horizons to include the real world. It's understandable you're being protective, but be realistic about it. Besides, imagine all the fun you'll have dishing about how awful the film cast was, or bitching about how they ruined "the best musical ever", and complaining that if the world only knew Rent the way you knew Rent, well...it would be a much better world.

Alright.

I'm done.

Go ahead...shoot.

But at least give me a running start.
