Initial Twitter reactions range all over the spectrum. I don't see this getting the praise that Hairspray received in 2007 (91% average on Rotten Tomatoes), though I do predict a couple of love letters sprinkled in here and there. I say somewhere between 65-75% average.

At least we're all getting something with positive vibes to conclude this terrible year.

“ The only thing I’ve seen so far is the new Glenn Close film, that would be a sure Oscar nom.”

Then you clearly have not read the reviews...

I am now looking forward to seeing Keegan Michael-Key in this. Just watched "Jingle Jangle" on Netflix. He played Gustafson and was evidently having a blast with it.

Just give the world Love.

^ I watched Jingle Jangle too. I was a bigger fan of the good guys than the bad guys.

Okay just read them and ouch! So, now I'm not even sure what movies would even be nominated for Oscars. There's nothing out there.

Lead Actress is actually the most competitive its been in a few years. In addition to Streep you have Frances McDormand (Nomadland), Vanessa Kirby (Pieces of a Woman), Viola Davis (Ma Rainey), Kate Winslet (Ammonite), Michelle Pfeiffer (French Exit), Sophia Loren (Life Ahead), Andra Day (United States vs Billie Holiday) , Rashida Jones (On the Rocks). And possible contenders from Jessie Buckley, Anya Taylor-Joy, Elizabeth Moss, Amy Adams, and Carey Mulligan.
"

Buckley deserves strong consideration.

But the Oscar buzz should be about Catherine Deneuve in The Truth.  But it's not.

WHERE IS THE LOVE?
