If Cirque did go bankrupt what would happen to the Strip? There would be no shows in Vegas, which is inconceivable. Vegas tried with Broadway on the Strip and that seemed to be a big failure with show like The Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, The Producers, Avenue Q and Hairspray all underachieving. Not sure if there was any Broadway shows playing before the shutdown?
No one is going to go to Vegas, just to pump the slots all day, they need a distraction. So if the Cirque goes then so will the Strip, even the casinos used to give out free show tickets with dinner, as oddly enough people bet more, if they were taken away and went back. So therefore I cannot see the hotel owners allowing Cirque du Soleil to go bankrupt.

No one is going to go to Vegas, just to pump the slots all day, they need a distraction. So if the Cirque goes then so will the Strip, even the casinos used to give out free show tickets with dinner, as oddly enough people bet more, if they were taken away and went back. Sotherefore I cannot see the hotel owners allowing Cirque du Soleilto go bankrupt.

That's wonderful! The singers are such an important part of the show, and the music in general. I actually email Benoit Jutras to let him know how much I loved his score. I also asked if it was available commercially, but he said no, since CD sales are down. But I bet if they offered it on iTunes, et al it would sell. It's spectacular. I hope you get called back when everything is back on!!

I assume Blaxx meant shows in general, not just CdS even though they are the largest provider of entertainment. I do play the slots a bit, but without shows I won't go to LV. As soon as Le Reve announces reopening I'm going!

I meant Cirque specifically. Other companies could pull through in Vegas and revitalize the entertainment options.

There's a lot of wrong info in this thread.
There are also some of us who are still employed with CDS.
It's a restructuring of about $900 million of debt. It's not a full bankruptcy.
True, not all shows will return, but most of them on the chopping block will be the touring shows and not the permanent installs.
The new Disney show will definitely move forward as will many, if not all, of the Vegas productions.

I agree with you. Although I want to go back to Vegas, I won't go until the shows are back on. I don't really gamble (maybe $20 on blackjack) I see a different show each night. I would simply be bored without the shows. If I lived close by, that is one story. But I would be flying clearly over from the East Coast (Florida).

Thanks for the update--the first report on the Blue Man Group cast and crew being laid off versus furloughed (for the other resident shows) suggested that the show was closing, glad to see that new reports are now saying it will be back at some point.

There was also a desert before Las Vegas, The Mojave Desert if I recall.
No good Las Vegas giving itself the self grandeur title ‘entertainment capital of the world’ if there is no entertainment. That’s why it will get bailed by the hotel owners. Sure other shows could come in, but it will be a crapshoot, especially as Broadway didn’t work,

This thread is a reaction to the threads title, which came about from a news story generated by Cirque Du Soleil and the assumption is what would happen if all 6 Cirque shows closed and the company did go bankrupt,
Sure you get the odd residential show on the strip and some magic shows, but this would be lacking for people who liked high quality entertainment and the point is what would replace Cirque as a crowd pleaser? I already pointed out earlier in this thread that Broadway shows went to the strip, got reduced to 90 minutes, which IMHO was vandalism and in turn flopped
Alternatively we all know that Cirque could survive this and this in turn would make this thread pointless.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Right now Cirque is planning on reopening "O" by July 4th, and then every month one more of their shows here will open (Mystere and then some order of MJ One, Ka and Love). Blue Man Group may also be one of the first shows to reopen but it's unclear when that would be.

Over the weekend, I spoke to a ticketing agent for MGM Resorts. A few of their shows already reopened this week. She told me next month, March, they were already planning to expand the number of tickets sold to 200. Each month after that an increase. I am hoping for a trip in September and she stated that by then they are hoping for a return to "somewhat normalcy". The bad thing, now, if I wanted to attend a show, I would have to buy two tickets. They do not sell solo tickets to anything.
