clearly, and I get that. Hence why I put my age. If anyone my age was questioning to see it, don’t.

I am 58, presumably well within the target audience, and agree with everything Mike Barrett said.

Ya, just found it so uninteresting and dull and lifeless. Also if I’m not the direct target audience I’m still eligible to buy a ticket so my opinion still matters, lol. Just my thoughts and don’t have to or need to be anyone else’s. I really found Broderick and SJP to just be acting as themselves, rather than any true difference character. For anybody unless you are a #1 fan of SJP and MB I’d honestly say this is so not worth the price of admission. Especially at it’s crazy prices

Mike Barrett, seriously, I would have been much more harsh if I'd paid full price!  I was able to get a $30 ticket via the TodayTix lottery, back of the Dress Circle (slightly obstructed view), so it was only a disappointment.  At full price, it would have been an outrage Plaza Suite Boston Peformances Thread

Not many times I’ve paid and felt it was entirely not worth it. I paid for A Bronx Tale and wasn’t happy after but didn’t feel it was a complete waste. Not buying this expensive for a Pre a Broadway in Boston again, at least not after this one. Truly blowing my mind this is going to be on Broadway and people will pay even more for it!!

My worst was last year, when I finally got around to seeing "Wicked."   I guess I should have expected it after all those years, but the show was tired, the performers basically sleepwalking, and the Gershwin atmosphere felt more like a high school gymnasium than a Broadway theater.  I've been considering finally giving in and seeing "Phantom" on my next visit at the end of the month, but I'm afraid it'll be another Wicked letdown (heh).

Ha, nice pun.

I can't speak to PHanton or Wicked on Broadway, but I know Wicked has many cast members who have there for likely close to a decade at this point, if not longer. Not surprised to hear its tired. Id definitely see Phantom once if you can but no need to break the bank for it, Imo. I think the Wicked tour lately is producing a much better quality of the show.

I noticed in the Playbill that the first character listed in the second act is Second Bellhop. That character didn’t appear at our performance. From start to finish, the show ran 2:35 (as opposed to the 2:45 listed at the theater or the 2:40 mentioned in an earlier reply). I’m curious if a sequence was cut from the beginning of the second act at our performance. Does anybody who went to an earlier performance remember a second bellhop in the second act?

I saw the show in Boston, and was wondering if anyone else was there when Broderick broke character because he called a character by the wrong name?

"Second Bellhop" (a role played by the Borden understudy) isn't in the script, and the actor did not appear in the performance I saw (15-Feb).    Michael McGrath and Erin Dilly are the understudies for the leads. I wish I had seen them perform.

A full intermission between Act I and II, then a "brief pause" (about 5 minutes) before Act III.

I couldn't find any reviews by critics in the Boston press, just interviews.

Saw the matinee yesterday. Have to be honest as much as I like SJP, I had low expectations going in. But both she and Broderick had great charm and made what was never that great a play into a fun two hours. I was roaring at the finale as was the rest of the audience. An audience made up mostly of older to middle-aged women. So that's their audience.

Both Parker and Broderick signed after and they got to everyone for what was a relatively small crowd. He was grumpy, she was charming and friendly. One woman brought her signed playbill from the production of Annie Parker had starred in and Parker ran over to her and gave her a hug.

Press night is Friday the 21st so I assume reviews will hit soon after that.

So my dear you think you can get to Broadway. Well, let me tell you something. Broadway has no room for people like you. Not the Broadway I know. My Broadway takes people like you and eats them up and spits them out. My Broadway is the Broadway of Merman, and Martin, and Fontaine, and if you think you can build yourself up by knocking other people down... ...GOOD LUCK... Seinfeld

Sarah Jessica Parker was part of the original Broadway run of ANNIE at the Alvin Theatre.  She joined the show in 1978 as July when original cast member Shelley Bruce was promoted as Annie (replacing original Andrea McArdle).  Sarah Jessica then replaced Shelley Bruce as Annie until summer 1979 when she was replaced by Allison Smith.

Well, was at the performance tonight - half hour before curtain it was canceled “due to the indisposition of one of the actors”. According to a couple of the workers we spoke to, both MB & SJP are ill.

They’re refunding everyone and unfortunately there’s no way to exchange for a later performance here, since the remaining Boston shows are sold out. Bummed.

Hoping both have a speedy recovery - I know they wouldn’t have canceled a performance lightly.

That’s so disappointing but there are so many people sick right now. I know the press night was supposed to be either tonight or tomorrow.  Hopefully they will feel better soon.     Can they let you exchange for a performance in NYC?

No, the theater made it clear last night they couldn’t exchange for NYC. I have a trip scheduled to NYC next month, but unfortunately my slots are all filled with other shows. Entered the lottery for tickets here in Boston on Saturday, but that’s always a crapshoot. Looks like this may just end up being the one that got away.

They issued a statement last night:

REGARDING THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20 PERFORMANCE: Unfortunately, tonight’s performance was canceled due to an illness just before the auditorium was opened to the public. We are so sorry for the inconvenience and the sudden nature of these circumstances. Tickets are being automatically refunded to credit cards if guests have purchased by phone, online or in person.

Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker said, “We’re absolutely devastated that this had to happen. We’ve felt such extraordinary hospitality and Boston's warm embrace as well the support of the theater community here, making disappointing tonight's audience even more heartbreaking.”

This is sad for the many ticket holders who saw their plans involuntarily cancelled.

It is also another example of why a buyer must be mindful of their source if not purchasing directly from box office or official site:

“ Tickets are being automatically refunded to credit cards if guests have purchased by phone, online or in person. ”

Assuming a craigslist buyer didn't purchase fakes to begin with / they now backtrack through the history of the ticket to secure refund.

Looks like they've decided to help people see it in NYC after all - just got this email from the theater and this was included in the text:

As you may be aware, the show is moving on to Broadway with performances beginning March 13, 2020. If you are interested in attending a performance in NY, please contact us directly at infocolonial@theambassadors.com and we will work with the production to assist in securing tickets for you.

Big ol' publicist-fed puff piece from Michael Riedel this week. But the $10+ million advance (which Philip Boroff also reported earlier this week) is notable, and is probably more related to SJP than MB.

That was the right thing to do. Glad they decided to do that but of course it may not be a date that fits everyone’s schedule.

Looks like SJP is out tonight with the wonderful Erin Dilly filling in.

He did the same thing in the dreadful, thankfully short-lived, Evening at the Talk House.

He's a nice boy, shy, not grumpy. He should stick to movies and television.

I never found him to be grumpy.  Actually, quite the opposite. Very friendly, at least to me.   Although, I did find him, at times, to be a little unkempt.  SJP dresses immaculately.  He stands there with a shirt that hasn't been ironed and not completely tucked in.  But I like him.

Were there no professional reviews of this from the press opening?

Maybe they didn’t have one due to the cancellation of one performance and SJP missing the Friday night show.  I know they were supposed to have one before the closing night but both performers were sick at the end of the two week run from what I saw on social media.  Not sure but just a guess.
