If it is indeed filmed over there it would be a first (as far as I know) where the Broadway cast was assembled solely to film the show over there and not actually open and run the show, so who can say how the unions will work it out. However, if everything is done over there (including rehearsals), Actors Equity would have very little that they could actually do, as it would all be in British Equity's jurisdiction.

I wouldn't read anything into that. There have been productions that have rehearsed in NYC although being done elsewhere. When Disney did the German production of Hunchback, they rehearsed it at the New 42nd Street Studios. And, I went to see that recent run of Tommy at the Kennedy Center, and it said in the program that it was also rehearsed in the same place too. New 42nd Street studios. So, Spongebob would hardly be the first to do something of this nature.
Tommy is slightly different, as that would have been under an Equity contract throughout its entire process. It's not uncommon for regional theaters to do at least a portion of rehearsal in NY before traveling the cast.
I would be curious to see what the situation with the German Hunchback was, as Equity used to say that work for international productions was not in violation of membership, but that no work could be done in the US (including costume fittings). That's a big part of why Disney Cruise Lines rehearses up in Toronto.

I did find this article when doing a google search. I do wonder, since the article does state that the cast was international, does that at all change things seeing as it wasn't a full American cast that was preforming the sho anyways.

As noted about fifteen minutes, but it was done very carefully: a line here, a line there, so it's pretty much the entire show minus a bit of extraneous dialogue.

Unless you watched one of the two hour reruns where they cut substantially more: No Control, Daddy Knows Best, Poor Pirates, Bikini Bottom Boogie, and (I Guess I) Miss You
I know it's available on Amazon prime, but I wonder if this will ever be able to be purchased physically- DVD, Blu-ray etc. Sponge Bob has a huge fan base and I could imagine it selling pretty well

Or on something that isn't Amazon Prime, since there's no option to purchase it in Canada. The only option is to do a month long free trial of Stack TV, which is $12.99 a month after the trial ends.
